for the past couple of years, i have been going into hospital, to have a stent inserted into the tube coming out of the kidney that goes to the bladder.

now, i had a pre-op assessment recently, told I would get a letter through saying when my operation would be as every other time ive had an operations ive had this aswell.

the this time I did not receive a letter stating when the operation was, and i got a call yesterday stating why I am not in hospital as I should be having the op that day.

this op, needs to be done every 6 months without fail as the stent will block up with kidney stone residue and i will loose the kidney.

I ring up today and they say the next available operation to have this done is over 2 months away, which it far too late as i will lose the kidney.

due to there ineptitude I will lose my kidney and be in a lot of pain due to the stent getting blocked. now this is very bad if i loose the kidney as both kidneys do not function properly and the one with the stent is only working at 17% efficiency, the other im not sure on but its not good either.

I've rang the Patient advice liaisons service, and they say they are going to try and sort it...

what else can I do to get the operation sooner? and I really dont think I can afford to go private and kinda really need this kidney.

Should the worse case scenario you describe pan out, the compensation they'd be liable for would be very significant.

I would contact the Head of the relevant NHS Trust and in your communication, remind him of this fact. Would probably do no harm to copy in your local MP too.

Either way, hope you get it sorted!

The surgeon WILL fit you in if it is vital. There is always room for urgent ops. Ring their secretary.

And be nice not shouty wink

Your surgeon may well be able to fit you in at a private clinic through the NHS. There is something called the Free Choice Network and there will be slots available for new FCN patients at private clinics.

It's worth asking.

If a surgeon wants to see you and it is imperative that you're seen, you will be seen.

Urgent is urgent - the next elective appointment may well be 8 weeks away but if you're right about the every 6 months without fail thing, then that's not really elective at all. Get hold of your surgeon (via department/secretary) - s/he will sort it

PS my urology consultants were called Mr. Pearce and Mr. Payne. Nominative determinism? biggrin

yeah the first surgeon to do the stent thing told me its every 6 months without fail, otherwise it will block and the kidney will have to come out.

Ive had a different surgeon every time though, so cannot remember there names, but i can remember that they were not called mr payne lol, dont think thats a very good name to be a surgeon.
