Vaping and headaches
Discussion
I do not smoke or vape, but a chap I know does.
The trouble is that I am ending up with headaches and a sort of anxiety when we train and it seems to have started when he switched to vaping instead of cigarettes. (Which does during the briefings prior to training).
I don't know anyone else that vapes so I cannot really test myself on someone else
was just wondering if anyone apart from me was suffering a similar issue from 'secondhand vape'. It could be something else but seems too much of a coincidence.
I would bring it up with him but don't want to put him off doing it as he has almost quit the cigarettes!

Glad I'm not the only one. Seems to numb my senses too (if that's understandable!)
Interesting comment on the nicotine, I had read that it can have far higher levels than a normal cigarette.
Cheers for the responses!
It's unlikely to be nicotine which is giving you a headache - many of the toxicology tests have identified that little to no nicotine is exhaled from e-liquid vapour, and that passive vapour poses no significant risk to humans (unlike smoking) This was one of the first articles I found in the briefest of searches http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23033998Interesting comment on the nicotine, I had read that it can have far higher levels than a normal cigarette.

Dr Konstantinos Farsolinos is is probably the seminal e-cigarette researcher currently, here is a link to an article/table outlining Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) measured http://www.ecigarette-research.org/research/index....
The main components of exhaled e-liquid vapour are Propylene Glycol (PG) Vegetable Glycerine (VG) Nicotine and Flavouring - the exhaled nicotine is in very low amounts compared to the inhaled nicotine, circa 0.5%. E-liquid vapour also doesn't linger as long as cigarette smoke.
I'd guess that you have an intolerance to PG (cheap liquids have an 80%+ PG level) or that the flavouring is causing it?
I'd ask him to stop vaping around you and explain the symptoms, I'm sure he'll be receptive and respect your wishes - I do vape but am very mindful of others; some vapers think that as it isn't smoking they can vape wherever they like.

I'll have a word with him, just didn't want to make a tit of myself if it could be something other than the vape

Funnily enough, in the past my migraines have been triggered by strong smells e.g bleach aisles in a supermarket. I guess PG could be having a similar effect? I'll look into that too

I have noticed that the 'smell' of the vape seems to cling to me for a few hours after the training, so I guess it could be the flavouring. It is hard to describe the sensation, but it feels like a film over my skin and clothing.
Thanks again!

Vaping is for the weak.
Either give up completely or just stick to proper fags. At least they look cool and you're still propping up the health care system.
I don't get any symptoms from 2nd hand vape but it smells horrible to me.
I get that you don't like Vaping but saying you don't like the smell is like saying you don't like the smell of food - there are so many flavours that you're more than likely to enjoy the smell of at least a few!! On topic, I would definitely ask him kindly not to do it near you, he should respect that without too much fuss and hopefully the symptoms die down
