Losing the beer gut..

I'm now watching what I eat...no crisps, chocolate, pizza etc. Running two lots of 5km per week and getting the bike out again. Anything else a 36 year old can do to help lose the gut and love handles? Being a desk jockey doesn't help.

Thanks for the views so far.

I did play badminton until I changed jobs a year or so ago, I'm trying to get that going again. Also, looking for a 2nd hand road bike so I can increase distances as doing the local lanes on the mtb is a bit boring.

re diet. trying to cut out all sweets, biscuits, chocs and cakes. I have a sweat tooth so this is hard. I'm 6' and just over 14st, got down to 13st 8 last year but went back up to 14st 8 at Xmas.

Typical day:

Breakie - 2 pieces of fruit
Lunch - Ham salad sandwich and low fat yoghurt
Snack @6pm - couple of dry jacobs cream crackers
Dinner - Meat and rice - maybe omlette and chips if I want a treat.
Snack @ 9pm - one or two jammy dodgers

So good so far for me, certainly losing a few pounds and noticing jeans are much looser. Just bought a road bike too which will help mix the exercise up a bit.

Update time: was 14-6 at the start of June, now at 13-7. Target sub 13.

Progress continues. First day riding 18 miles to work.

Update time, just back from 2 weeks holiday where eating sensibly and 7km runs every other day has seen good progress and 4lbs lost. Now at 12-11, gut still there though albeit much smaller.

Target now 12-6.

Will be doing 100km+ cycle rides every week and one or two lunchtime runs.

OK down to 12-9. I need to put a bit more muscle mass back on now though. What's the best way to do this without putting fat on at the same time?
