Way to change the subject.
But, the line up is clearly very defensive. Obviously BR has grown impatient of Lovren's mistakes - unless he's injured? Some of the players just haven't been stepping up recently, so why give them glory of playing RM? I wouldn't quite stretch that to Sterling.
Looks to me like this is a continuation of BR's plan against Newcastle to drop some of the attacking strategy in favour of containing the opponent. I think he's trying to get to half time still at 0-0 and then bring on some attacking options in the second half to hit on the counter with some fresh legs.
To me it's the best strategy of saving our best legs if the tie is already over by half time or maybe grabbing a point in this game but also saving some of our best players for the league - in which we also badly need points at the moment. Forget nostalgia.
I've not changed the subject at all. We're talking about who plays when. Of course Gerrard shouldn't play for 90 minutes every game BUT to drop him and most of the first 11 in a game like this is shameful. You'd be upset if you'd turned up to a home Carling Cup game and this was the team. But, the line up is clearly very defensive. As for the Newcastle game, that's when he set out to try and nick a 0-0 from the kick off. Great strategy that was.
I'm sure those players did everything they could last season to be made to sit on the bench tonight. If he loses tonight he'll lose the dressing room for what he's done.
