I like the way people talk about Rangers going bust as being a bad omen for the SPL. "It's the beginning of the end!"

Fine if they were going under due to poor economy but they're not. They're going under due to being tax dodgers. That will only effect Rangers.

Rangers huge fan base? Absolute myth.

Wealthy Rangers fans who will create a pheonix club? Who, folk like Craig Whyte?

Many titles bought with dirty money. Enjoy living in the wilderness bears, you'll be there for a long time.

The new owner seems to be gambling on Rangers creditors (with him being one) accepting a Company Voluntary Arrangement and Rangers getting away with paying off only a fraction of what they actually owe. They take the 10 point hit (they wernt going to win the league anyway), and come out of it all debt free ready to go next season. Some short term pain for long term gain.

However HMRC, if the upcoming ruling goes against Rangers, will be one of the biggest creditors and they don't often agree to CVAs when it comes to football clubs (look at Portsmouth). And if that's the case, will there be any other option but liquidisation?

Given the equal opportunity, previously robbed from them by a cheating, tax dodging bunch of dignified individuals, no reason why Hearts, Hibs, Motherwell, Aberdeen can't grow a great amount when they have the benefits coming second in the league will give them (huge assumtpion that Celtic will win, nobody would be as daft as to expect that before the league has started....)

There is nothing special about Rangers. They simply have spent the most on players etc out of the rest of the SPL.

You'll all go back to supporting Motherwell or Hearts again, wherever you actually come from biggrin

What rises out of the ashes of this will be very telling for a lot of disillusioned Rangers fans who think there are more Whyte Knights out there in Lodges up and down the country itching to take over a club with a huge history and much potential.

You could always buy out St Mirren, they're only down the road. laugh

Looks like one way or another they'll be in administration today.

Only decision is whether Rangers appoint the administrators, or HMRC.

Always surprises me that people think football clubs have a divine right to exist and that it would be incomprehensible for one to be wiped away for ever. It's as if football clubs should be immune from extinction or the fans are somehow owed the right to continue to have the club to follow.

I don't give a st for the repercussions re. fans, the league, or some other intangible greater good. Like any business going under under similar circumstances good riddance I think, you reap what you sow.

Football clubs for years have been financially inept. It’s the only business model in the world were the product you put out can be rotten, you can treat the customer like crap live out with your means and still have loyal customers.

Only now with the recession in full swing the fans cant physically afford to pump money into their club like they did to compensate for miss management. Wont be the last club to go bust before the economy gets better. Nor if the spl don’t shake the league up dramatically.

An example of a weekend away fixture for me

Dundee away
£19 entrance, £25 petrol
If you add drink, food or a programme on to that you can easy top £75, for what, crap football. Most people are simply fed up of the product on offer, so they will pay £22 a month for sky. Easily the cost of one away game and watch 10 + games a week on sky sports in the comfort of there house.
