Moyes seems to be a v.good contender...

Any new manager will still have to cowtow to Fergies wisdom even if he is on the board of the club..

I hope Man United never win another title
Still sore from 95/96? Time to let it go.

As an Everton fan its the day we all knew would come. Moyes as been destined for the job. He as delayed signing a new contract from mid season and all this as been planned. Make no mistakes he will be a mere puppet for two seasons as SAF beds him in. He is a good friend aswell as a fellow jock

I'm not sure why Moyes is being tipped so strongly. He's very good, but no away win at United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool suggests to me that he's not really top-flight.

Or he's not had the money to be able to buy players to compete at the top flight?!

I hear Gazza's been spotted at Old Trafford, with 8 cans and a bucket of fried chicken.

Would love it to be Mourinho, can't see it happening though.

I could cope with that. I wouldn't be surprised if Giggs stops playing now and moves to an assistant role, rather than going on a final year.

This has not come as a surprise to me. I suspect Bacon-face would have stepped down at the end of last season if they had won the league. He wanted to retire with a trophy in his last season which is why he stayed on another year. Mourinho's mannerisms when their sides met seemed a little too polite, making me think he was being lined up to take over. When the special one said he wanted to return to English football, it seemed likely.

I cannot see Mourinho stepping in though. One thing I am certain of is Taggart will not be going far. Slur Alex will still be nearby, pulling the strings of whoever steps in, and a manager of Mourinho's calibre would not put up with that.

Whoever takes over needs complete control of the team IMO. Some of us are old enough to remember the fiasco at MU when Matt Busby retired and Wilf McGuinness took over. Busby went 'upstairs' but carried on tinkering which made McGuinness's job nigh on impossible.

Not quite, he missed "Rags" and "Munich". Had he squeezed them in then he'd have been as good as this guy (yes I know it's a United prank call, but a good one):
