Good also to see Barcelona tweet this :"Football is filled not only with rivalries, but also with indelible memories. Thanks, Frank Lampard, for your contributions to the game! "

He was always abused when he played against West Ham, unfortunately we have our share of 'brain deads' among our supporters.

A top guy and great player.
I doubt he took it personally, it's just football. The best players get the most stick. Look at the abuse Gerrard took off us at Chelsea (and we tried to sign him!).
He almost always responded by scoring against us.

Agreed, that is a nice touch.

A class player you could always count on to "do the business" when needed and get you out of the crapper.

Irreplaceable player, it'll be a long time before we see someone stay with a club and realize their potential the way Frank did at Chelsea.

Fantastic player and a huge contributor to a decade of success.

Always turned up for normal games and big games. Whenever the strikers couldn't deliver Frank would pop up and save the day.

You wouldn't think timing a run to the box would be that hard. I'm suitably unfit that I'd be guaranteed to arrive late but very few players have the art of timing a run.
Just lucky he had decent players around him .

He could take a decent penalty i'll give him that

That view puts you in a very tiny minority.

Agreed. Top players end up at top clubs surrounded by top teammates. Old adage of cream rising to the top.

Shame you haven't been able to witness this since 1961 but keep on dreaming.

38 yrs young and still the boss, now in the MLS. 2 late goals last night turned a 1-2 defeat into a 3-2 victory. The 2nd goal in particular, was pure class. 9 goals in 9 games now.

I tell you, at Lampard's funeral, he'll arrive at the graveside at the perfect time without anyone noticing and them bury himself right in the corner!
At his funeral he'll end up in the hole having been deflected off the vicar.

More unique i'd say .

He was pretty much ok i suppose i never really rated him that highly. Fair play to him though & his uncle Harry speaks very well of him too.

I thought his best performance was when he dodged the punch from a stupid fan at WHL a few years ago.

He played in a fantastic team surrounded by fantastic players with a manager / managers that had endless pots of money to spend supplied by an owner that was happy just to lose well over £100M a season.

His club record is decent but his International career is pretty ordinary , not hard to figure out really is it.

You know there are football fans that don't just support for their teams purely because they win stuff.

Fatty Lamps has done well for himself & fair play to him , but he's nowhere near the top of the tree as so many JCL Chelsea fanboys think he is.

Just like my opinion dude

Since my first game was 1963 I don't consider myself a JCL fanboy.

We're all entitled to opinions but Frank's record is a matter of fact. Of course he was surrounded by top players, all top players are. Apart from Alan Shearer I can't think of any top players that didn't want to better themselves by playing in the best team possible.

Imo top player whose record speaks for itself. He worked very hard to make a good talent an outstanding one.

I think the pinnacle of his career ,despite what he and others may think, was playing for City hehe

I'm far from being a Chelsea fan but I think there's no doubt Frank Lampard made himself into a first-rate professional and all credit to him on an excellent career. Yes he was surrounded by good players at Chelsea but if he hadn't been up to the job and wasn't of the right standard do you think he'd have been one of the first names on the team sheet for so many years?

I agree his international record is less impressive but let's be honest, how many English players can claim to have a good record in that respect in recent years?

So I say congratulations to Frankie for all he achieved on the field and good luck to him for the future. Throughout his career he was a rather better role model on and off the pitch than a lot of his contemporaries and, unlike a lot of footballers, he actually comes across as having some brain cells between his ears; therefore, I suspect he'll continue to succeed in whatever he chooses to do!

29 goals in 106 appearances from midfield playing in a very mediocre team surrounded by far worse players than you're used to playing with isn't too bad.

People bang on about the step up to International football. That may be true if you're at Spurs or Everton. But for players in that era coming from Chelsea, Man U and Arsenal, it was a massive step down!

John Terry partnered Roberto Carvalho at Chelsea and then went off on international duty alongside the likes of Matthew Upson!!

Strange then, that it wasn't any of the fantastic players around him that came 2nd in the Ballon d'Or , but Frank himself.

Frank joined Chelsea to play with fantastic players, but in just a few years, fantastic players wanted to join Chelsea to play alongside Frank.

Frank joined Chelski from West Ham after WH had just sacked his father and his uncle.
