It was a foul. One of the United players was booked yesterday for something not quite as bad as the Alonso one.
Doesn't prove anything. We all know Utd are treated more harshly than any other team. José said this so it must be true.

He wasn't unconscious and I would argue that the awkward way in which he fell did far more damage than the "elbow". Why must it be a foul just because one player came out of the challenge worse off?
He was knocked out on impact with the arm. It doesn't have to be a foul when one player comes off worse out of a challenge. But this one was.

Shouldn't the ref also stop the game immediately as it was a clear head injury?

He didn't have to, as the ball was in the net so play had stopped with the goal anyway. Had Alonso's header hit the bar and play continued, I'm sure he would have stopped play.

Fair enough, I thought the ref had to blow the whistle the moment a head injury happened which would have technically been before the ball was in the back of the net ?

He was knocked out by the impact. He hit the ground unconscious.

If this was the other way around, I'm sure we wouldn't be having the same debate.

Blimey, he's a bloke, not a supercomputer. By the time he's seen what's happened, processed the info and got the whistle to his lips, Alonso is halfway to the corner flag in celebration!

If the victim had been Cech and not Bellarin, I bet no one would be debating it then. You can't even jump for a ball near the goalie these days, let alone knock them out in mid air with a forearm smash!

Let's put it this way - if he jumped and flattened the keeper it would be a free kick, so why not when he flattens Bellerin?

Correct
...or if the defender took out the attacker.

Putting the rights and wrongs aside, for it highlights (yet) another weakness in the Arsenal mentality. They should have been raging to get a goal back, and driven by the manner in which we conceded. Not one player appeared to be upset at losing a team member never mind trying to pursue the issue or look for a bit of retribution in some way.

Anyhow all this chat about whether it was or wasn't a foul has nicely deflected the chat away from the annual Arsenal collapse and whether this really is Arsene's last season.

Can't argue with that. A completely gutless performance. The 3-1 scoreline flattered Arsenal, that was a 4-0 game. The first 10 mins aside, it was just so comfortable.

Our recent win over Hull was a far harder match.
