I just want deadly Doug back in charge, I was one of the few that didn't want him to go and I know he wouldn't have let any of this happen especially the whole Mcleish debacle.

er hmm, you are kidding right, where do you think deadly came from ? thats right small heath united, and where were we before that to55er became Chairman ? yes right again Champions of Europe

What did he do in his first job, get rid of Saunders, and destroyed our chances of becoming a top four club, so if you dont understand why he is hated so much then i suggest you maybe google his track record

the only thing he did for Villa was Rob the club of any excess funds

Yes he came from the dark side and yes he got rid of Saunders and though we had these very nice shiny new trophies before Doug we had a stadium that was falling down we were training in the local park and lets not forget that out of the championship winning season 7 of the 14 players used in our first team came from the youth set up that was put in place by Doug before he went to the dark side.

Now look at Villa park and the massive investment made look at who got us O'Neill and who gave Gregory £89 million to spend he wasn't a tight wad and would spend whatever he could without putting the club in jeopardy. I have met Doug, one time was when O'Neill joined, myself and my brother jumped the boards from the north stand to talk to Doug and martin and though he had already decided to go and had suffered a lot of stick his love for the club was still there.

Every single person I have ever spoken to that has met Doug has said the same thing and that he is claret and blue all the way through. He is a true gent a one and only, and if ever you do meet him once you get him started on talking about Villa it is hard to get him to stop, he really does love the club. The club is a much better place than it was in 1982 that is for sure and our training facilities are amongst the best in the world. The first couple of season under lerner were good but what then? what has he done in the last two years apart from giving us managers we don't want at huge expense to the club how is the team better now than when Doug was in charge? how is the club better? we have faced relegation now for two seasons while watching the noses actually win something (yeah I know it was a fluke) but they did it. what have we done?

Although i respect what you are saying, unfortunately i cant agree with any of it, but i don't want to get into an argument who is the best owner,Doug never ever put his own money into the club, he purchased the club from the Bendalls amidst a fraud investigation against them with regards to the construction of the North Stand, but that is the past and what ever anyone feels we need to deal with the present. (guess how much he paid for it)

My thoughts are RL made a massive mistake with MON and Faulkner, MON is a gooodish manager but he pays far too much for players wages ( which is why he left the club) but you have to blame Faulkner for this as he sanctioned them.
The club also had a higher wage Bill than Spurs 3 years ago, 4th highest in the league, now as we all know this is unacceptable and now it has to be corrected, which is what is going on now with the getting rid of the highest paid wasters at the club, now this may mean we go down, if thats the case then i say lets go down, our young players will get better and then with future investment in three years time we will be a stronger club for it.

One thing to remember though is RL and Villa are the 4th highest spending club in the country over the last 6 years, now here is the question, who is really to blame.

But one thing is for sure, we will agree that to get the club on a sure footing and move forward is essential

Randy lerner hasn't put money into the club either, I think you will find he has loaned the club the money in the same way he bought the club (Glazier style) under his leadership we have sold some quality players like Milner, Ashly young and Gareth Barry for good money, we have also let a lot go That could have helped with our defensive problems like young, shorey, cuellar, Collins, Davies and beye.

You are right though in that something has gone very wrong, I maintain that this would not have happened under Doug as he wouldn't never have allowed the club to be saddled with debt http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premie... most of this came from the sale. Where the money went from the Barry Young and Milner sales though I would love to know as our debt hasn't got any smaller since Lerner took over.

slightly incorrect as he put in £62.5 mill when he bought 60% of the clubs share, plus whatever he paid for the remaining shares.he did not borrow money for the club, he did loan the money to the club for transfers in 2010, which was a loan, Doug did exactly the same thing, infact it was worse as at the time he was the only professional chairman that was paid a salary

Purchases under Lerner £192,850 million

Sales under Lerner £102,400 million

maybe that answers some of your question

(interesting debate)

I think I could spend far too much time there lol and it appears you are right about the finances and have opened my eyes a little. Having had a look, the one thing that strikes me is how long Lerner has been here, for some reason I had 4/5 years in my head but 2006 I would not have guessed. Time really does fly when you're having fun lol. I still can't help thinking that Doug was better, he very rarely missed a game, in fact it is still very rare that he misses one. Where is Lerner? how can he ever see what's going on when he isn't here. Maybe I'm an old romantic maybe I just associate Doug with the good old days before our relegation battles, maybe I'm just stupid but I still want him back lolbiggrin

Your right and i agree to the romance of the old days, infact we had a few relegation battles under Doug, one we lost and went down and only just managed to scrape back up though a draw at Swindon and then 13 years ago we managed to stave of relegation only for Norwich to drop down, but in those days it was less important, if you got relegated you dusted yourself of and reshaped spent a few quid and back you came, but now slipping out of the premiership puts you years behind without the sky money and your only chance competing once you get back in the premiership is with a large investor who has money to burn ?

the days of hating ole Deadly were much better frown

PS if we go down this season i fear we will never be the force we were as we are an unfashionable club in a pretty unfashionable area that would discourage investors

Aaaaaand we're out. I'm bringing out the clichés to say that 'now we're out of the cup we can concentrate on the league' and 'it's a blessing in disguise.'

And back to reality;

We're st...

BBC says it all:-

But Villa's vulnerability at set pieces saw their lead last five minutes, with Danny sttu heading in from a corner.

We were winning, for five minutes we were winning. I'm going to stick with that thought and pretend the rest of the match didn't happen.

McLeish gets it in the neck from the Villa fans, but it seems to me that he was far from daft and knew that, to play more open, attractive football with the duff players and lack of funds at his disposal, would have been folly.

Yet this is exactly what's happening now in a way.

Villa will go down, sad for such a great club.

Be careful what you wish for!
