Listing Kompany as "great" of the premier league is a joke. He had 1 good season when they won the title last year. Been very average this year.
Conveniently forgetting players like Bruce, Pallister, Adams, King, Terry, Ferdinand, Carragher etc etc
I think "outside the top 1000" is taking it too far (and makes it smack of sour grapes) but I can see what the Waddler is getting at here.. The earlier poster who compared Beckham to Keegan (ie making the most of reasonable natural ability through hard work) hit it on the head.. This is what Beckham has done for me.. both on the field and off it through making the bvest of what he's got.
Waddle was a totally different type of player... MUCH more naturally skillful but unlucky enough to be not as good looking, not representing teams with a realistic chance of winning as much silverware or playing in an era when the financial rewards were as great. Channel 9 News always seemed to rate him highly too
