Pick a formation, style of play, and the choose the squad to give you options. We had no plan A, let alone plan B, and plan C.
^This in spades.Clueless is an understatement of Hodgson's tenure as England manager.
Any England fan worth his salt could have named the correct squad and called the substitutions better sat on their sofa at home - and saved the FA 3 million quid in the fking process.

I'm thinking its a bit depressing in England generally at the moment.
Not if you're a rugby fan.Now there's how to manage a team of players.
It just shows the difference that the right manager with the right message can make in no time at all to what is basically the same group of players.

If you saw the reaction after the winner against Wales I do think there is passion there, it just isn't harnessed by the current setup. We have totally the wrong mind set, one of fear and negativity, and it affect everything we do. Add to that the fact that there appears to be no plan at all when things go wrong and it was never going to work out.
I watched Italy play today and they were the exact opposite of us and a joy to watch. It all comes from the bench, and when you see Conte at Chelsea this year you'll know what I mean. Pure passion and drive.
I saw Italy too and they were a breath of fresh air from their old self - at one up they'd have been camped in the 18 yard box but actually were more attacking than any team I've seen. Hope they do well.I watched Italy play today and they were the exact opposite of us and a joy to watch. The worlds a mess - we could end up with Boris as PM and Trump as US President - god help us all.

We need to emulate what Spain and Germany did a few years back. Slowly grow a team that work together from a young age and build something special. We just chuck a bunch of expensive Spurs players on the pitch and hope they figure something out.
We were doing that then Rooney came charging back in to fix things.castex said:

I agree with the first point, but "expensive Spurs players"?All 5 spurs players cost a total of around £15m put together.
Im shocked I tell you that Hodgson has overseen that absolute shower.
The man is and only ever will get you bang average at best.
As I said during the group stages he didn't have a clue which players to play in what formation and it was all his own doing. There's a reason why winning teams pick the same players in the same formation week in week out!
It's funny how all the sports reporters and pundits are now slagging him off. The majority of them have been defending him for years. Saying he deserved a chance after Brazil then pointing to the undefeated qualifying campaign against woeful opposition. Finally he's out but no doubt the blazers at the FA will bottle the next appointment and pick a nice safe pair of hands that won't rock the boat.

Our players need to get experience abroad, but foreign clubs won't take the chance because they're too expensive. Who was the last England international who was playing for someone outside the EPL? Hargreaves?
Dier. Funnily enough the one player who had a good tournament. Gassing Station | Football | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
