I take it we didn't win laugh

They say Iceland has a population of 330,000,

A third must be pensioners & children, a third must be women so that leaves around 110,000 men half of which i'm guessing don't like football.

This has to go down as the worst of the worst

Yes, he was so great at Newcastle. Knee jerk reaction, plenty out there more qualified.

Apparent Iceland has 40,000 men who are of the right age to play football. 40,000.

You could get Jesus Christ in to manage the team but they'd still win nothing because the players don't give a toss.
Well done Iceland, you deserved it.

Successful British managers? take your point though.

Our players need to get experience abroad, but foreign clubs won't take the chance because they're too expensive. Who was the last England international who was playing for someone outside the EPL? Hargreaves?
Too expensive, on too high wages, and not good enough. The number of youngsters who get loaned out to foreign clubs and fail to do well. They are not technically good enough, and why would foreign teams buy expensive players who are inferior to theirs?

Sterling is apparently £50m and on 100k+ a week. Pep must think Man City have money to burn.

No such thing.

When the last time an English manager won anything of note...20 years ago, 25 years ago....longer?

Appointing any Englishman to the job will just be 'same old - same old' from the sweet FA....

If your a male between 20-40 you have a 1 in 2000 chance of playing for the national team.

Genuine question here.....

Why dont we just pack it in? International football i mean?
Whats the point? We arent going to win anything. Just pack it in for 5-10 years and revisit if we have players with more spirit and heart in the future.

Love all the comments regarding Shearer and not having enough experience etc. you surely all realise that kind of opinion is exactly what keeps getting us into the same position time and time again? Why not give him a go, we could do with a bit of passion for a change. Southgate just another yes man who did nothing in his career, Pardew et al are a bunch of average English managers who have again never achieved anything in the game either as players or managers.

Come on then, who's a better option and why?

Dier. Funnily enough the one player who had a good tournament.
Ok he grew up in Portugal, but plays for Spurs now

The joint Iceland Manager, Heimir Hallgrímsson, is a part time dentist, who has never managed a big club - yet has dragged a tiny nation to the quarter finals of the European Championships.

Should we be looking further down the league table? - you don't have to be a Premier League winning manager to be an international manager - and it could be said that managing England is more akin to the Championship and Division 1, where passion, drive and teamwork is more important than talent.

I'm not saying they're the answer - but look at what Steve Bruce has achieved at Hull or Eddie Howe at Bournemouth.

2 promotions and an FA Cup final at Hull is quite an achievement, even if there was a relegation in there, too.
