People need to stop blaming the manager and realise the system itself is broken.

Yep. Minimum 5 English players on the field at any one time in every PL match. The only way but it's never going to happen.

For me, keep Walker , Lallana , Smalling , Ali , Vardy , Kane maybe a mother go.

Why oh why wasn't Lallana on in the second half, the guy has playing craft.

Don't think Forster and Heaton's reputation have changed wink

Come to think of it, most reputations have just been reinforced after a very short period of temporary amnesia.

His tactics, his formation, his squad choice, his substitutions, his game plan for the opponents, his motivation to the players. Not all his fault but he needs to take a big portion of it.

I think it just shows that the Premier League isn't as good as we often think it is.
I don't think Vardy did much wrong. His style works when the systems suits his style, we just didn't play to his or our strengths.

Rooney and Hart should be finished. Walker doesn't seem to know how to defend at that level. Sterling is out of his depth.
Iceland were ALL out of their depth at this level on paper, yet they win at this level.

I don't understand why people think this will help. Didn't achieve anything before the days of the EPL and the rafts of foreign players. The English players who earn a place in their club starting 11 should, by the very nature of competition, be more than good enough and offer a quality selection pot for the national team. They should also improve more quickly as they are surrounded by foreign talent from different backgrounds.

question from someone who knows little about football:

Is Hart really the best goalkeeper qualified to play for England?

I would say yes, week in week out. The issue with GK as a position is that every mistake is magnified. Rooney miss-controlled or overhit every pass he attempted last night but as they didn't lead directly to an opposition goal there is less focus.

The problem with this England team boils down to the coaching and management team.

Hodgson is medicrity personified, and Neville - great analyst on the telly but fked up at Valencia and no other experience. Look to the England rugby team to how a good coaching setup can transform the same set of players from chumps to achievers.

England came into this tournament with no Plan A or B, no settled side, no system, no consistency of performance. Hodgson didn't know what his best side was, he put round pegs in square holes, he picked the wrong players, the whole thing is just a clusterfk snafu.

Oh - and if Southgate is the answer I have no idea what the question is.

I have to think that there is a technique to international football that somehow is not transferable from the weekly game.
There needs to be a simple game plan that everyone understands, and a couple of set pieces. That's it!

When I look at England players sometimes, you can almost see them thinking, what, of the million ideas that Ron Manager has talked about in the week we have been together, am I supposed to be doing.

Indeed.

Until the idiots at the FA invest in proper coaching nothing is going to improve.....they will just buy another box of Band-Aid sticking plasters to put over the grazes on their heads they got from sticking them in those holes in the ground.....

Rashford almost changed the game for us, 86th minute is too late to bother to change things!

Sturridge out wide, no! He has a lack of crossing ability, he's a central striker.
Vardy comes on, where was he playing exactly, up top, wide left, where did that put Kane? And why was there no one on the left? Rose didn't seem to bother to get forward much either.

The whole performance was the worst I've ever seen from a bunch of premier league players.
