I think we need a 18-25+ goals a season proven striker. Someone who got barely to the teens who is 29 is unlikely to make that jump in my eyes.
I don't think spending cash is the issue, I think it's finding the right fit.
We are being linked with names of any striker, opposed to the right one for us. The problem is, I think Sanchez was the one for us.

I've mentioned it several thousand times on the thread but how about 27 years old
55 goals in 136 games for Independiente
28 goals in 58 games for Chiapas
46 goals in 60 games for Porto
10 goals in 29 starts for Colombia
Powerful, South American, prolific.... it would be like "Luis who?".....
In all seriousness, there's two different types of striker you might be going for and either way, you might not be happy. Go for a central striker who's prolific and Sturridge has to move out wider, blunting his effectiveness. Bring in a number 10/ second striker and you won't be getting the thirty goals a season that LS scored.

The only other top tier name we've repeatedly heard is Shaqiri. Don't think he's got to double figures yet in any one season he's played so far. Much younger though at 22 yrs of age.
Shaqiri is a great player- but he's a winger, not a striker. Still scores quite a lot of goals (he must have been in double figures in the Axpo super league (Switzerland) for a couple of seasons; and he would become a fan favourite- here in Basle he is still loved, despite moving on to Bayern; Bayern fans love him too, even though he's a bench warmer thanks to the presence of Ribery in the side. The quest for a highly prolific striker continues...

You had a fantastic striker & you let him go , sounds senseless to me.
We needed the money to buy strength in depth, which we badly need with Champions League footie coming up. Surely you must understand that after doing so fantastically well with the sale of Bale?Black can man said:
Bodge had better get started then .
Will Rickie be leading the line against the big boys from Manchester tonight ?
I hope he makes Raheem an emergency striker and he gets 10 !! but how crap is it that we are down to 1 fit striker before the season starts, Bren must do something (don't ask me what) or we will have lost top 4 before we can say top 4 Will Rickie be leading the line against the big boys from Manchester tonight ?

This. Sanchez was indeed the one.I don't think spending cash is the issue, I think it's finding the right fit.

Trying to find a similiar player like Sanchez, of a similiar age and talent, proven or even semi-proven but with desire, is going to be very hard indeed. Next best in my eyes but a completely different type of player would have to be Bony.
