Yup. I'd far rather Chelsea won the League Cup than England win the World Cup.

It's not our fault, honest.

Look at what's on offer - following on from the lacklustre performance in France (and that's being uber kind) we're not sure what we're getting. Early days etc (although deja-vue dictates quite a dose of cynicism).

Teams in the Premiership get a bigger cash bonus just being there than winning the Champions League.

Contrast with other team sports - cricketers turning in repeated good displays, even World record breaking...cyclists ditto...rugby (union) posting a record series win against Oz...before we get to individuals.

Meantime our brave footie boys bask in opulence totally unwarranted by results. But still they dominate the sports pages, because you can never know too much about WAGS or hairstyles or metatarsal injuries.

I'll probably still watch tho'.

You do realise Sterling is probably the most in form player in the country right?

I can only assume you haven't watched any football this season. As you say, don't bother watching then. No biggie.

Crikey, I thought we'd changed the manager?

Is he actually picking the team?

What were people thinking was going to happen? Do you think there's 20 other players that are better that just weren't locked?

This. He's probably been the best English player in the league so far this season, so definitely deserves his place.

Unlike at the Euros, when he had flitted between injured, and badly out of form in the months leading up to the tournament.

He looks like a completely different player this season under Guardiola.

For everyone moaning, who else would you have picked?

Not exactly a long line of top class, in form England players is there?

Happy to stand corrected.

Sterling has played well in 3 games. I'll reserve judgment given that he has been dog st for years.

Agree. The cupboard is bare in terms of top quality footballers.

Funny how England, or at least GB, is world class in most sports, yet Football we are barely second tier.

I completely accept the well is a little dry in that respect but let's see who he's picked.

Hart - not playing in his club team. Should be ditched for Heaton or Forster
Walker - agree with him
Rose - would rather have Baines or Bertrand but can see why he's picked
Stones - agree with him
Cahill - agree with him
Dier - just about agree with him
Henderson - what's wrong with Drinkwater.... again?
Lallana - would prefer Antonio myself
Sterling - good start to the season after a shocking Euros
Rooney - only in the team because he's been named as captain as no one else seems to want the job. Give Alli the position.
Kane - not Vardy then who's had a better start to the season?

So realistically, given the job, I'd have gone for Heaton, Baines, Drinkwater, Antonio, Alli and Vardy. Certainly wouldn't retain eight of the eleven that were humiliated three months ago by Iceland.
