It's nice to finally have a squad big enough to compete on all fronts.

Have to say well done to Ian Ayre, he's certainly redeemed himself in this window.

Now we just need a decent 2nd keeper!

I don't think we'll be playing the 433 of last season as much either. Nor do I think we will revert to a 4231. Rather I think we'll see 3 other formations used regularly this season. a 352, 4132 and a 442 diamond.

352 gives us the below with the option of playing Sterling as wing back. I think we'll use this when we need to keep it tight at the back rather than a 4231.

Skrtel Lovren Sakho
Manquillo Henderson Gerrard Lallana Morello
Sturridge Balotelli

4132 gives us the below with Coutinho also as an option and Henderson and Gerrard being rested

Manquillo Skrtel Lovren Morello
Gerrard/Can
Sterling Lallana Laser
Sturridge Balotelli

442 gives us the below with Coutinho able to rotate with Sterling

Manquillo Skrtel Lovren Morello
Gerrard
Henderson Lallana
Sterling
Sturridge Balotelli

Obviously neither Sturridge nor Balotelli will play every game so there will be occasions when we see last seasons 433 with Laser, Sterling, Coutinho and Lallana playing in the 2 wide positions with one of Sturridge and Balotelli. Also Gerrard will be regularly rotated with Can and Henderson with Allen.

We've now got a very good squad with lots of options. Going forward we need a right sided centre back and a strong keeper to at least compete with Mignolet.

Ooops Moreno obviously smile So many new players I'll be having to look at the team sheet next home game. I remember standing in the top corner at Barcelona having no idea who our left back was.

Just watching MOTD. We need a better keeper who as well as being a world class shot stopper can also command his box and distribute the ball well. That Chelsea lad looks very very good.

Balotelli signing a 3 year deal? For £16m? Not so sure that is the bargain everyone seems to be saying. If there is an option of a fourth then it possibly is. If he flops this season, he could be worth around £9m(?) with just just two seasons left on his contract. That would not be good business. If of course he does well and there is an option to exercise a fourth year, then that makes much better business sense.

There is no way Balotelli will only be worth £9M at 25 years of age.

He does well, he'll get a new improved contract at the end of the first year with more money. This 3 year deal protects the club as well as incentivising Balotelli. All positive as far as I can see.

He's a funny case of the only "world class" player who's transfer value drops with every move.

If he flops he will be worth around that mark. Worth is dependent on quality and also on the number of years remaining on a players contract. Look at Carroll - English, young and a proven flop, dropped in value from £35m to 15m.

Of course if he does well, nothing to worry about.

This is true.

We've replaced one head case with another - let's hope the outcome is the same.

All in all, if this deal happens it feels like it has been a good summer. Here's to the season being as exciting as last year.

laugh Andy Carroll was never worth £35m we just got fked over. He was worth £20m at best but Newcastle took the piss out of us.

Champions league draw on Thursday. Is anybody going any of the away games providing they aren't in deep Russia?

Probably not the best example. Even Andy Carroll was worth £15m after his disastrous season with us. And that Leeds fella cost £11m! I can't see Balotelli losing much money even if he's a flop. If he is I reckon he'd still be worth about £12m to a midtable team like Spurs.

Had a feeling Allen and Moreno would play.
Mignolet, Johnson, Lovren, Skrtel, Moreno, Gerrard, Henderson, Allen, Coutinho, Sterling and Sturridge.
Hart, Clichy, Kompany, Demichelis, Kolorov, Fernando, Fernandhino, Yaya, Silva, Dzeko, Jovetic.

1 Englishman for City.
I think the game will be won in the midfield. Just hope Gerrard, Henderson and Allen do well against Toure, Fernandinho and Silva.

If anybody can get a ticket please let me know biggrin
