Under Fergie I didn't hear too many complaints on here about Valencia, Nani or Young, but Di Maria is a significant upgrade on all of them...but I'm guessing if you stick Di Maria at left wing back he'll not be anywhere near as good.
They have seriously regressed. Nani shown promise for about 26 years and fulfilled it every now and then, Valencia was our best player a few seasons ago so no reason to complain and Young had a decent start but that was like 3 years ago.London424 said:
Well in my view Utd have panic bought Fellani, then Mata and now Di Maria. The reason is all have come in as either positions that didn't need filling or in the last week/days of a transfer window.
You rarely see a team buy a big name player like that right at the end of a window (with next to no links prior to the signing).
Of course he's a great player and will no doubt improve the side and as has been said "it isn't my money", but if I was a fan I'd be hoping some defenders were coming in over the next week.
I heard the Di Maria deal has taken 2 months to sew up, hardly a rushed transfer? You rarely see a team buy a big name player like that right at the end of a window (with next to no links prior to the signing).

A quick google reveals thats not true, this was posted exactly a month ago:"United in pole position for desperate Di Maria: Angel Di Maria has travelled to the United States in a desperate attempt to push through a move to Manchester United, according to the Daily Star. PSG had looked his most likely destination after the summer acquisitions of Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez appeared to make the Argentine surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu. However, Financial Fair Play restrictions on the French club appear to have put that move in danger, which has made United the new favourites to sign the forward. Di Maria is set to cost in the region of £45 million."

I don't get why people don't think we needed a massive upgrade on the wings as well as MF & CB. Would Young, Nani or Valenica play for the teams above us? Highly doubt it.
oh I don't know - I reckon Sunderland or West Brom would take themTuvra said:

People need to stop trying to knock the signing of Di Maria - yes UTD are in a bit of a turnmoil atm but lets be honest that signing is good for anyone - A lot of money but UTD can afford it so who cares??

agree - its only a silly signing if it has taken resources away from signing in more important areas for Utd - not cash which Utd have plenty of but scouting/negotiation/legal/medical time.ultimately a quality player but Utd need 4 or 5 more to challenge City/Chavs

oh I don't know - I reckon Sunderland or West Brom would take themYoung was supposedly looking much better in the US, but has reverted to type (he belongs back at Villa or West Brom), Nani has just been disappointing from whichever way you look at him. None of them would make it into Cheski or City's teams & probably not Arsenal's either.

No, I am just confirming that this signing has certainly not "come out of thin air" and is a desperate purchase like some are suggesting....People need to stop trying to knock the signing of Di Maria - yes UTD are in a bit of a turnmoil atm but lets be honest that signing is good for anyone - A lot of money but UTD can afford it so who cares??

Young, Nani and Valencia would struggle to get in any of the top ten.
Fletcher and Cleverley would struggle to get into any Premiership side at all.

Whereas when Bale was going last year, or Suarez this year it was constant.
I'd expect a low value or unknown signing to be a bit below the radar, but you're talking about one of the highest transfer fees ever between two massive clubs.

Usually United keep their business private, and I suspect RM were keen to sell to United as not in Europe this year. It therefore suited all parties to discuss out of the public domain.

Madrid's mouthpiece ran a story at the beginning of July

We have been on this transfer for a very long time.
In fact we were trying to sign him in 2007 when he signed for Benfica. We couldn't get a work permit so we offered to buy him and send him on loan to our 2nd division feeder club in Spain.
Unsurprisingly he cjose to sign for Benfica instead.
So panic buy, after 5 years of trying?

Ah but Sye, you are approaching the situation from that of a football fan. If you were to be wildly ABU and have a huge wish to WUM this thread with little or no content just blah blah panic buy, blah blah relegation, blah blah Moyes etc then you would see it differently People need to stop trying to knock the signing of Di Maria - yes UTD are in a bit of a turnmoil atm but lets be honest that signing is good for anyone - A lot of money but UTD can afford it so who cares??
