The Official Manchester United Thread [Vol 4]
Discussion
I wonder come the end of the season whether the current inquest will be forgotten and just a blip?
I do know that everyone crowed LvG was the best appointment for Utd, while back at the club I now armchair support (Spurs) it was wondered if Pochettino was yet 'another' right new boss?
He only took over at Southampton in January 2013, replacing Nigel Adkins, but he led them to 8th place - Southampton's highest finish in the Premier League.
LvG is apparently 'not shocked' at the thrashing by MKDons. He must be alone!
My view at this moment?
I think Spurs have struck gold and Utd have struck bling.
Time, as usual, will tell.

Well in my view Utd have panic bought Fellani, then Mata and now Di Maria. The reason is all have come in as either positions that didn't need filling or in the last week/days of a transfer window.
You rarely see a team buy a big name player like that right at the end of a window (with next to no links prior to the signing).
Of course he's a great player and will no doubt improve the side and as has been said "it isn't my money", but if I was a fan I'd be hoping some defenders were coming in over the next week.
I heard the Di Maria deal has taken 2 months to sew up, hardly a rushed transfer? You rarely see a team buy a big name player like that right at the end of a window (with next to no links prior to the signing).

Does it really matter how long its taken if he has come ??
People need to stop trying to knock the signing of Di Maria - yes UTD are in a bit of a turnmoil atm but lets be honest that signing is good for anyone - A lot of money but UTD can afford it so who cares??
No, I am just confirming that this signing has certainly not "come out of thin air" and is a desperate purchase like some are suggesting....People need to stop trying to knock the signing of Di Maria - yes UTD are in a bit of a turnmoil atm but lets be honest that signing is good for anyone - A lot of money but UTD can afford it so who cares??
Whereas when Bale was going last year, or Suarez this year it was constant.
I'd expect a low value or unknown signing to be a bit below the radar, but you're talking about one of the highest transfer fees ever between two massive clubs.
Usually United keep their business private, and I suspect RM were keen to sell to United as not in Europe this year. It therefore suited all parties to discuss out of the public domain.

Why does any comment that doesn't agree with the locals/supporters have to be a WUM? I've already said that I think it's a great signing. I also just happen to think that it's a bit of a surprise that someone so high profile has moved in the last week of the transfer window without much of a word in the media (relatively speaking for a transfer like this).
Because you seem determined to make this transfer suit your own agenda despite evidence to the contrary. There are 2 ways a transfer can happen, loudly, in the press trying to court and unsettle a player, or quietly, behind the scenes with 2 clubs having talks in private with the player, agents etc and sorting everything before the press get a sniff
I'm surprised as a football fan you were not aware of this
Isn't it always the case with LVG that the first few months are a shambles because he changes so much, after a few months the players seem to 'get it' and success follows, iirc he was weeks away from getting the sack at Bayen, same at Ajax and at AZ etc.
You'll be just fine.
That said he should have put out a far better team last night, its not as if you are going to be over loaded with fixtures this season.

I think you are right, but I still have my doubts about 3-5-2 and hope we will move to 4-3-3 (or a version thereof)You'll be just fine.

Regarding last night I suspect that LvG couldn't give a toss about the League Cup, he has been brought in to take us back to Top 4 as a minimum so that we have CL and the revenue and apparent cache that it brings. Looking at the senior players who played last night barring Evans and DDG I think they have all been linked with moves away, I think they had last night to prove themselves and failed miserably.

What agenda? It's just my opinion...I thought that was what forums were about? Sharing differing opinions.Of course I know that transfers happen both publicly and privately...my only point was that I can't think of another high profile transfer (as in the top 10 most expensive of all time) being done this quietly...hence my assumption that it was a 'last minute' transfer.
Press appear to be reporting terms are agreed with Vidal now?
Surely it's more important to agree with Juventus initially?
