Anyone thinking the appointment of Redknapp will turn this mob into contenders will be sorely disappointed.

Yep, then at last we can perhaps get away from the madness of appointing 'only an Englishman' and do it properly, ie appoint the best man for the job. Which I believe to be Mourinho.
Does it matter how good the chef is if the ingredients are bland

Technically, on the basics of close control, passing accuracy and first touches, our guys are still not as good as the best Europeans.

Carricks displays for England were at best mediocre.

Barry and Parker have never been anything other than mediocre for England either. Different is they've never been anything but mediocre at club level either.
Sorry but thats just plain wrong.

Any Spud will tell you that Parker is the main reason Spurs are currently 3rd.

Carrick was a vital cog in United's midfield in 06-09 and he's been back to his best this season as well.
You're very clearly a United fan who wants Carrick in the team but unfortunately I can't see any of the future possible England managers picking him.

As for Parker being mediocre for England, he's just won the England fans 'player of the year' poll.

Sadly that doesn't mean he's not a mediocre England player. He's an average player at this level, albeit one whose persona appeals to the average fan.
What it does mean though is that he's one of the least likely of the current bunch of players that England fans would want to see dropped.

Carrick and Parker are completely different types of player one can't tackle and the others passing ability is restricted to short range.

Eric Cantona once said that every team needed a 'hod carrier' (IIRC it was about Deschamps)...Parker is our Hod carrier. When our backs are to the wall (as they will be in the Euros etc) we need people breaking it up around our box.

Water carrier

"Deschamps gets by because he always gives 100 per cent, but he will never be anything more than a water carrier."

Then he said - "You can find players like him (Deschamps) on every street corner"
"The only two decent French players in Italy are Youri Djorkaeff and Zinedine Zidane and the rest are nothing special."
Deschamps was at Juventus at the time

To which Deschamps replied
"How many players can you find on street corners who have won two European Cups? Besides, every team needs its water carriers."
I stand corrected biggrin

That's the sort of logic that has Crouch start the first two games in place of Rooney...
If we're going to play a lone striker up front then frankly I'd rather see Crouch than Rooney in that roll.

Frankly that display is exactly what I'd expect from an England under Hodgson.

Dour, uninspiring and devoid of hope for the future.

Yet we won. I dont care if we play the most boring football in the world, as long as we win, I dont mind.
