Scan back a few years on the United threads and you'd see some very similar conversations about DDG and he's now one of the few bright spots in our squad
Hopefully he will work out and should be given time unless he really starts losing us points, but there is very few players who will be the next DDG. There are far more that end up as the next Mignolet or worse. Flip Martian said:
Yup, Milner wasn't getting much love on here but he really is a bloody good player and has been since he signed.
I don't think anyone questioned Milner as a player - it was just he had done so well in midfield some of us questioned what we would lose out by not playing him there (assists in particular). As it is Mane has done very well and so it actually works out very well having a "spare" place in the team that we could play him in. If anything I think a lot of the comments about Milner earlier were saying we should drop Henderson for Milner if it was a choice of losing one of the midfielders.Flip Martian said:

Come off his line for the WBA cross that lead to the goal?
Didn't realise Gordon Banks and Hugo Lloris were posting on here!
Ah. Didn't realise we all had to play the game as pros in order to comment. st, its going to be quiet then, isn't it?Didn't realise Gordon Banks and Hugo Lloris were posting on here!
Really hope Ejaria starts tmrw..really do think he could be a real talent..be nice to see Ings and Grujic too

So, I've watched the WBA goal again.
It's a very good ball, outswinging, which is headed about 7-8 yards out. The penalty area is pretty busy and WBA are a tall team.
Who seriously expected Karius to come for the ball? It seems we have a new scapegoat folks.
I'm more concerned about why Firminho is challenging their centre backs on set pieces.

Dog with a bone, or what. You disagree with me, I got it the first time. If you actually read my posts about Karius instead of picking on 1 point, I said De Gea was dodgy in his first season and he will need time to improve and get used to the Prem. Hardly suggesting he's a scapegoat. We disagree on that goal but so what, its all opinions. Move on.It's a very good ball, outswinging, which is headed about 7-8 yards out. I did think the same Phil. After watching it I thought I'd Karius had gone for the cross there's every chance he would have been crowded out and it would have been an even simpler tap in from the knock down.
By that reckoning, unless the oppo stay away from attacking a corner, a goalie should always stay on his line in case he gets crowded out?NRS said:

This season, yes. But he was getting a lot of stick off some last season (not all, by any means). Some were seeing him as a weak link especially in our poorer games last season. Its funny, I was watching that game when we beat City 3-2 in our "we nearly won the Prem" season and who changed the game for City that day and brought them back into it? Milner. I'm glad he's getting that recognition now, very valuable player. I dare say if we sell him in a year or so, someone else will benefit from him for a year or 2 as well.jammy-git said:
I'd prefer to see a Reina type keeper, leaping into a sea of bodies and confidently punching the ball away, but there don't seem to be many keepers that do now any more.
Yeah, same here. I just think the mark of a good keeper is one who commands his box. Old fashioned view maybe.wjb said:
How long has it been since we had a keeper who can catch the ball?
Corner comes in? Catch it.
Cross? catch it.
I'm not asking for much, am I? I shouldn't be filled with dread whenever the opposition get a dead ball anywhere in our half.
Agreed.Corner comes in? Catch it.

Accepting it's not easy to catch when big players are jumping at you, I would at least accept a strong punch. Keepers can't just rely on reflexes at close quarters, surely.

I'd like our keeper to come and claim everything but keepers can't claim good deliveries into the box, the risk/reward ratio is all wrong. They have to pick and choose, which I would imaging comes with age and experience. How old is Karius? 23? He has time on his side.

He should have claimed the ball that he misjudged that led to the corner.
This, unfortunately. There wasn't anything he could do for the corner, but the cross before that led to the corner was entirely preventable.
I'm sure he wasn't that st at crosses when he was scouted, so hopefully it's just nerves and he will settle.

My comment wasn't aimed specifically at you so don't take it personally. There have been lots of people stating Karius should claim the ball without actually explaining why. I thought I'd try to back up my opinion with a bit of background.

Fair do's, I apologise for being snappy; I should never go on forums within an hour of getting up.I'd like our keeper to come and claim everything but keepers can't claim good deliveries into the box, the risk/reward ratio is all wrong. Karius won't peak for a few years yet, hopefully - would be nice if we end up talking about him in the same breath as Clemence and he was here another 10 years during our new successful period. Too early to tell. I just don't like goalies who never venture off their line. But maybe he's just following orders.
