Carragher said: "This will be my last season at Liverpool and my last as a professional footballer.

"I'm making this announcement now because I don't want the manager or the club to be answering questions on my future when I've already decided what I am going to do.

"I will be fully committed between now and the end of the season to doing the very best for Liverpool Football Club, as I've done my entire career since joining aged just nine-years-old.

"It has been a privilege and an honour to represent this great club for as long as I have and I am immensely proud to have done so and thankful for all the support I have had. There are many memories I want to share and people to thank, but now is not the time for that.

"I won't be making any further comment on this decision until the end of the season; all our focus and concentration should be on achieving the best possible finish in the league this season and trying to win the last remaining trophy we are competing in."

Liverpool legend.
Gutted. He is indeed a Legend.

He'll be back at the club in one role or another, eventually.

His kid plays at the academy doesn't he?
So he must just be chilling for a bit since I can't see him uprooting the family and going to a foreign country.

It's a shame he couldn't win many things at Liverpool but a great player and professional all the same.

Legend is right. Marshalled a defence containing Djimi Traore to European Champions!

If you're a striker and someone punts a high ball up to you and you see carra and hyypia both charging up to clear it, you will either:

A) st yourself
B) Think; fk it, no chance i'm winning this header
C) Cry

Most likely all three.

Looks like he won't be going anywhere.

Proper legend.

Good luck to Carragher whatever he turns his head too. Proper Legend and will be missed around the club.

I can see him working for BT next year.

bit predictable Jammy wink

For BT premiership as they have bought loads of football rights next year and are splashing the cash. Not many will understand him though

There is a tribe in Africa who communicate using a series of clicks, grunts and squelching noises. I believe he will be doing commentary for those chaps.

JC Liverpool FC Legend.
Today is a very sad day, LFC would have achieved so much more if certain players had shown the same level of desire and determination as Carra.

We should play him up front against QPR just to give him a chance of scoring! His electric pace will cause all sorts of problems
