Life long Gooner here. Didn’t know this thread existed on Pistonheads getmecoat

Very happy with Auba signing but disappointed with the Martinez sale. I preferred him to Leno to be honest. Hope his sale does not lead to complacency from Leno as he may view it as less competition for the keeper slot. Need to get rid of some deadwood but doubt there is much interest for those players.
Onwards and upwards for us this season Wolfie, it won't be worse than the start of last season biggrin

team sheet is out.

we are fielding 4 goalscorers, that's how confident we are.

Good to see Holding keep his place instead of being automatically displaced by Luiz. Hopefully Ceballos will pick up where he left off and shut that muppet Tim Sherwood up.

West Ham trying to play 3 centre backs, let’s see how this plays out but i smell blood in the water here.

That was going ok until Kolasinac forget he’s supposed to be a defender. frown

That was decidedly poor but we scraped it, just, more by luck...

Antonio is such a unit.

Our bench was the difference.

Can't beat a late winner.

Not the best performance but two wins to start the season is good enough for me.

Hard fought win that, thought we would have a bit more zip in our play after Auba signing the contract.
Played poorly and West Ham were a lot better but luckily we ground out a win with a bit of good play.

I'm not sure about Leno either Martinez would have handled some of those crosses a lot better unfortunately he was the keeper we were willing to sell.

Need to get some players in now hopefully before the Liverpool game as if we play like that against them, were going to be on the end of a bad defeat.

Yep, Leno inspired no confidence whatsoever, poor decision making and distribution. Their goal was down to Kolasinac allowing WH to run half the pitch unchallenged. We missed Tierney a lot.

Kola was absolutely bloody appalling....his passing was just st all night. And yes for the West Ham goal Xhaka and Kola between them let a player run from the half way line to our box without actually trying to tackle him.....they both shirked the responsibility. Actually think it was Xhaka who had to make the challenge.

West Ham deserved to win IMHO but a couple of moments of quality got us through. It showed how reliant we are on certain players and how limited some of our players are I think.

We’d have lost that game under Emory and probably in the first month or so under Arteta.

Kola is infuriating. He reminds me of Julio Baptista in that you feel that he should have everything he needs to be a great premiership player. The harsh truth is that he just isn't that good. Which is a shame as he was undoubtedly a good player for Schalke.

The main positive from yesterday is that, as others have said, we would have lost that game under Emery. Which is actually a really big positive as you can't blow teams off the park every week.

Totally agree with the above comments. We were so poor, couldn’t string 2 passes together at times. Players looked and played like they would rather be doing something else on a Saturday night. Frustrating but 3 points so relatively happy. Liverpool next in the league so they’ll have to play better than that or else we’ll get a mauling.
Interested to see what sort of team Arteta puts out Wednesday for the EFL cup against Leicester.

2-0 up with a few mins of extra time to go, I'll take that. Hasn't been a vintage performance at all, but I'd very much like to be keep winning in the cup games, winning is winning after all.

Feels like there is some real momentum being built and that hasn't been the case for a while (to be fair, Emery had a fantastic run before Christmas in his first season).

Really tricky run of fixtures coming up but actually looking forward to it. No one will be looking forward to playing us at the moment, whereas at times in the past decade it felt like matches against top four teams were near to foregone conclusions, our record was so poor.

Get that midfielder in and I'm quite excited about this season....

Leno had a slighly better performance than Saturday last night ! Saka was our best player by a mile and i thought willock and nelson put in good performances.

I dont doubt Pepes talent but he really needs to learn to use his right foot aswell to become more of a threat.

I feel the last 2 games are the types of games that we would usually lose in the past couple of seasons.

A good cup win, a clean sheet against one of the biggest attacking threats in the league.
