PH Football Forums. My view.
Discussion
In all my time on PistonHeads this forum proves to be one of the most difficult to moderate. At times I have justified the reasons for having a football forum on PH when the amount of moderator reports makes it seem pointless, and yet I am now close to wondering why we bother myself.
I like football, hence my desire for this forum to remain, but I need all who participate to be decent PHers and to respect the rules of the site and the moderator action that sometimes has to take place. It's time to get this place in some sort of order. fk about and we'll need to act, just as you would expect us to do in The Lounge or General Gassing.
Racism, baiting of other clubs (maliciously and with intent to rile) and pointless and endless arguing can't happen. I go on the terraces so I know banter is part of the game, but FFS let's keep a lid on it eh? Sometimes this place is embarrassing.
I want to reopen the LFC thread, we'll seek to do this by the end of the week, but if the arguing starts again we'll remove people from threads (temporarily or permanently as we would do elsewhere on the site. I won't reopen it until I'm reassured we can start afresh and that we won't continue to drag up old dirt. Reading some comments on that thread makes me despair, and that genuinely saddens me (hence me being at the office writing this instead of being at home cooking my dinner).
Creating fake profiles to continue an argument with a mod is completely out of line too, it's a bannable offence as it would be if the abuse was directed at a member. We will ban anyone who thinks this is an acceptable thing to do, be in no doubt about that.
Time to draw a line and move on. I don't want to hear any more about any past issues, no more snide comments, no reasons given to close threads.
Agree with me? Why not step up to help us to mod the forum, it's too big a job for one man. Mail me if your keen and let's get started. Full bans too strong in some instances? How about a three strike rule, or a weekend ban so members lose the right to comment on the weekends games? There's a solution out there and we'll find it.
With sad football events making the headlines, it's time to grow up. 90% of the content here is excellent (except the dislike for Chelsea, but you can't have it all) and I apologise to thoise reading this who just want to chat about footy.
I hope we can move on. I'm off home now, but will be back in later. Let's not use this thread to carry on old debates, instead I'm looking for reassurances that we can draw a line in the sand.

I don't understand why the football forum requires different rules from the rest of PH to be honest. Just ban the idiots who transgress like on any other part of PH.
A two tier punishment system hardly seems fair on posters in say the Lounge. They shouldn't be subject to different rules just because they don't follow football.
Sorry but appeasement of the posters on the football forum, however well intentioned, is not a balanced way to proceed.
Fair point, but the rules would stay the same and the 'cards' would be based on the temp bans/ temp forum bans we already use. A two tier punishment system hardly seems fair on posters in say the Lounge. They shouldn't be subject to different rules just because they don't follow football.

It's a better way to stop a forum dying, more than a way to appease.

Looks like our first volunteer to be banned
Can you explain why?Do you think a specific few should never be criticised or questioned?
If your passionate about getting the footy section settled, offer up some suggestions. If not, it's not a thread for you.
Let's all move on now....

But this is the problem .... we've banned people from the threads, we've locked the threads; everyone promises to be on best behaviour .... then a week later back to square 1.
But that's why we're raising it, to highlight the issue. This is a warning, an open-discussion if you like, to get that point across. Most mod actions are invisible to those not involved. UF said:

Castrol Craig was banned
Worth pointing out that Craig was banned several months ago and the issues surrounding his ban continued, infact some would argue those same issues lead us to this point today.Admin needs to be effective, it needs to identify an issue and resolve it. (Obviously Craig was banned in accordance with PH rules but did things need to get that bad)
Thank you
Can we get a sense of order here
This thread is to highlight my disappointment with how some behave in this forum (not any other)
Nor was it created to give a platform for moderation issues in general.
It's a bking if you like, my offer to those involved to change their ways, a warning that no more st will be tolerated. We did it in The Lounge, we'll do the same here.
What I asked for was a show of understanding and for interested mods to show their hand. Nobody is suggesting radical changes to existing rules.

Which is why you (mods) need help. You haven't been effective in identifying the issues, dealing with the issues or allowing the community to have any control. You've let so called "banter" ride, you allow posters to act as wums.
The issue that Craig had a problem with led to the last LFC thread closure even though Craig was banned months ago.
(Please don't take this the wrong way it is meant as feedback.)
UF, enough please. Point made. The issue that Craig had a problem with led to the last LFC thread closure even though Craig was banned months ago.

Got mod issues take them up with me, But not now.

Would Ferg / Kinky / Garlic comment on what you guys see as the main problem we have in the threads that cause you problems?
Is it "banter" going too far? Out and out insults? "wind up" posts going too far?
What do you guys see as the main problems?
Knowing when to stop I'd say. As mentioned earlier, there's banter and there's rudeness. There's a valid argued point and there's arguing for the sake of controversy, there's harmless baiting and there's spoiling for a fight. Sometimes a mod steps in, that action is then questioned endlessly until a closure takes place. Is it "banter" going too far? Out and out insults? "wind up" posts going too far?
What do you guys see as the main problems?
Just requesting posters apply a bit of common sense really, but sadly the few spoil it for the majority. Respect others and respect mods.
The 'Respect' campaign....rings a bell
