I absolutely adored the Impreza's with the Spec C being the best one, close to 10/10 for me (power, handling, noise etc), only reason I'm not in one now is an age thing ie they're more of a young mans car imho!

The 130i is a great car though, probably 8/10. Tad under powered vs the Scoobs (still has 270hp though) + a bit heavier albeit the RWD / handling is great as is the sound of the straight 6. It's the only car I can see myself keeping for a while, most tend to go at <2 years.

Re a direct import from Japan, it's really hard to do as you need someone knowledgeable at the auction. £ vs Yen tanked for a while making all the imports too expensive for the UK, not sure how it is today though. Best use one of the reputable importers to source one I'd say.

I always wanted a S202 though but never did get one so you never know I may get back to the Scoobs one day!

Yes I know exactly what you mean about an age thing I should be driving something beige at my age.... The 1 series sounds good I had a 335d touring for a year an that was an 8/10 also (286bhp and awesome torque).
I drove a Lotus Elise yesterday just to add confusion, slightly lacking in the seats department. No luck with a Subaru JDM as yet.
May try a track oriented car loads rate the MX5 but I can't get comfortable with the idea, I keep checking for a decent Subaru SVX every now and then, perhaps a 944 stop gap or a Civic type R..... Front wheel drive though it's not old school is it...
I have a Griffith to dispose of and a E36 BMW 328i sport auto cab with 36k miles from new should really clear space before buying again really.
