well yes and no..

wheel spin is an issue.. however larger turbos would mean it would spool later and therefore have lower torque whcih might not break the gearbox..

of course I could enable traction control on the ecu but that would be boring..

Simon
Thing is, if you're going to sprint or hill climb it at some point it's drive you want not outright power anyway.

I guess you're at the point of what you decide you want to do with it. TDs for fun or some form of TA type series, or whether you build it for HCs or sprints. HC and sprints really do need minimum lag and the lowest boost thresholds. It's why compound charging is popular.

Not really.

It doesnt take very much time to change turbos and load a map on.

Ie. turbos for sprinting, turbos for drag racing, turbos for track etc

It's not just the tubbies and map though. Wheels, geo, brakes, aero are all very different in the different disciplines - what works for one doesn't necessarily work for the other. None of those - bar aero perhaps - are irreversible though.

That said, it makes sense to have a go at them all and see what you enjoy most - before you start chasing tenths biggrin

Totally, I thought we were discussing turbos at the time hence didnt mention the rest of it.

I would like to make the totb subaru team this year so trying not to make it aimed at just one function.

Next year once my finances have recovered and I am happy with the car I may well decide to do one thing with it and change spec but it will still be reversable. So could do drag in the morning, swap brakes, wheels and turbos and do handling in the afternoon.

I dont want to chsnge to drag tyres at the moment as the gearbox is suffering enough as it is.

Sequential is a big chunk of money so not rushing to do that

Good stuff - good luck making the team. What sort of power are the others making?

Out interest can you actually get a proper sequential rated at that power?

I looked at them for my Evo but given a full seq box seemed to be around 15k I quickly dismissed that idea. Quite a few were rated at 500 ft/lbs though or thereabouts.

A dog box and an Ikeya is one option I suppose and would be a chunk cheaper than a full seq box.

the sequential modenna box is a dog box with sequentail select etc

not sure what they rate them too. Steven D has tested the one in the lateral car to fair amount of abuse at 700+ bhp but not sure what torque

I think a sweap stake on how many runs before gearbox explodes might be easier.
If weather is kind I would think 6seconds is possible but cars not had any setup time with regards to grip, which is good on the box but not on the times lol

So how did you do Simon?

I checked on the MLR but that thread is now 55 pages and I'm not reading that many. I did notice the SVM car did 218mph though in thw wet yikes

first shake down of the car today at MLR 30-130 event, no pics as RAF base so not allowed.

Rolling along in second at 20mph along the runway, into the coned area and throttle in and it just spins up all four wheels and I have to fight to keep it straight, into third and it spins up, grab fourth and it spins but grips a bit and a big shove down the runway with a bit of a wiggle mid rpm glance over to see 130mph on the vbox, slick 5th and the window folds outwards lol watch cj wrestle it back into line as I level the throttle (trying not to come straight off it as I have no idea how the car is going to behave decellerating at that speed and there is a fair side wind and it is very slippery) and glance to see speed on vbox and then compute the fact I need to slow down now.

That was the first drive of the car in anger (all be it medium anger at that point)

Windows fixed and a bit of time spent on laptop and notice the car is taking on a lot more air on the runway than on the dyno and power appears to continue much higher up the rev range, more on that later.
second run out.. on the last run I was feeding throttle in slowly and only got to full throttle once in 4th...and was short shifting and not really paying attention to rpm. So this run out now after lunch I try and use more throttle and with more confidence in the car try to push it harder.. CJ is still in the car for morral support, fire fighter, window catcher, ballast lol.
Much more aggressive run but slower and a lot more wheel spin but wheel spin where you dont go anywhere and not so sideways as the first run but its slower..
More datalog analysis and a few more changes to the map.

So third run out and the track is now damp rather than wet and no puddles and I have adjusted the tyre pressures again and dropped the boost to 1.1bar and I have a little more grip and I have a lot more confidence in the car and have left CJ in the pits this time..
wheel spin through 2nd and 3rd and fourth grips and away we go, slick 5th and then 6th and then think I should check the speed to see 165mph and look back foot still nailed as the bonnet scoop pops up an inch on the drivers side lol.. lift off and cruise back..
Its now time for event to finish.. I was just at the point now where I was confident fully with the car and could start actually trying for a good time rather than checking the car out.. but very happy with 4th today out of 42cars and 9th over the two days out of 87cars for cars first outting.

bonnet scoop and 170mph = fail lol I didnt intend going over 140mph today but got carried away, hence still had bonnet scoop and big rear spoiler on.

Many thanks to CJ for all his help today.

Good result. Out of interest do the competitors run 0 degrees camber in this event to help with grip or is it not that serious?

Well done on the result, and what a great result for a first run!

Was the record beaten by anyone?
