Wrx PPP wagon - taking me a while to find
Discussion
Keep looking until you get the perfect car. You have the money so you're the boss.
Always buy the best that you can, and if you have to pay just a little more for the ideal example that turns out to be 'the car' be prepared to do so because if you don't someone else will.
Really great examples with all the right paperwork and everything else don't hang around for long.

OP, you sorted yet or still looking?
Still looking! It's a pretty similar story to embeddedbob. I've decided to settle on any nice blob/bug/hawk with or without PPP. Looked at a few. Called about a lot. I know I'm being fussy but as I don't actually need a car I don't really are!
It's quite interesting looking around especially when you push people for details: it's got FSH and clearly wanted for nothing.......why has it got one odd ditch finder and 5k overdue a service?!
I went to see one at a garage the other day which was about 1500 overpriced IMO thinking i'll see what he can get knocked down to. I didn't even bother to approach the garage owner after looking around the car. Even if it was half the price I wouldn't want to own it!!
I'm finding that there are so many cars that aren't quite up to scratch that I don't want to travel to see one that even has a sniff of not good enough.
I have cash in the bank and tbh I don't really have a budget. I've been tempted by a GB270 wagon but I think it's too nice to throw my muddy gear in. I just want something looked after and worth the money. These wagons are overpriced. I think I've now spotted 3 that I would buy for the cash but they have sold very quickly and before I could view them.
As I say the bonus is I don't actually need a car so I'll keep looking!!
TB
Those GB270 wagons are really nice and IMHO the best of the newage WRX wagons by far.
You wouldn't want to do much more to it if anything at al really from a power point of view other than perhaps make better use of the 2.5 lump by extracting a bit more of the loads of available low down torque out of it which really isn't difficult with minor exhaust mod and panel filter.
Find a lowish mileage one of these and you've got a keeper

Looks like Top Gear may be partly to blame for the scarcity:
I can't imagine that one made it back in one piece.
When was this TG?I can't imagine that one made it back in one piece.

I had a good one the other day; "what about the last 20k miles of service history?"
"my mate done it but no paperwork"

It's a teaser shot from the Top GEar website. I think their special this year is 3 cars trying to find the source of the Danube or something. They use a Beemer estate, an Volvo 850, and an Impreza wagon. I don't know if it is a PPP, it's just that the exhaust reminded me of mine!
Hmm, I wonder when that episode is? Hopefully after Ive bought something!Cactussed said:
LOL! To be fair, I'm just looking for a station and weekend runabout, so not too bothered about PPP really. More just want an inexpensive, reliable and fun runaroud I can chuck the bike / kid / shopping / general stuff in the back of...
Why not get a classic then?ETA I spent years looking for a decent classic wagon and never found the right one! I considered a saloon, but once again I failed. When a mint low mileage RB5 was offered to me by a guy at work last year for £4k I was gutted as I now only had on street parking and would not have been able to sleep at night without it locked up in a garage!

Does the PPP give noticably more get up and go?
Yup. 4.8 seconds quoted to sixty, plenty of midrange punch though it gets a bit breathless atthe top end. Long gearing mean this isn'#t a problem though. This is a good write up:

Many will tell you as much or more can be obtained through a minor fettle and a stage one remap, but the factory nature of the PP upgrade makes it desireable IMO.
