Planning to change to 16" wheels soon, so I thought I should give it a quick clean for some last photos on the 17" first. OK any excuse for photos really, I'll probably post more with the 16" once they're on.

Why drop to 16's?

I spend a fair bit of time on gravel roads courtesy of where I live and what I do for fun, some of them are nice and smooth but some of them... aren't.

I've buggered a few 17" tyres over the years on rough roads and did another couple on a sneaky pothole recently (you can see the resulting sidewall bulge on the left rear in the photo), hopefully the lighter unsprung weight and taller sidewall will give a bit more compliance over bumps.

I'll be keeping the 17" wheels so I can always change back if I don't like how it drives on 16".

Makes sense. The 16's should be far more pleasant on rougher roads.

My wagon, owned it for around 3 years... Full service history has only 50 000 miles on the clock, full leather interior.. Tbh its always taken second place behind my Renault 5 gt turbo which i have had for a lot longer well since i was 18... im 30 now, but ive grown quite attached to it and couldnt see myself selling it.. Its been damn near faultless really. I had the cambelt done this year so it should see me well for a long time..

I bought 17s for my WRX and ended up going back to 16s just for the comfort factor on tarmac.

Anyway, I decided to do a bit of gravel bashing as it was miserable weather here in Auckland, the car got just a tad dirty tongue out I'm not quite the photog like Ben, but photos follow anyway...

Its so much dirtier in person

Nice! I still like the 1st-gen Legacies eh, cool cars smile

Looks decent enough on the 16" I reckon, what do you think?

Actually feels a touch perkier too thanks to losing a good couple of kg unsprung weight per corner, though it could be all in my head.

*snip*
I saw you had one as well. They're good cars. Getting harder to find now though....

Anyway, it looks really good. Those are the BBS wheels from the early BG5 Legacies aren't they? I love them, they have a fair bit more depth then the 15" ones the BC/BF came with. I really want a sent to put onto my wagon, as the gold wheels on it now and actually my track wheels off the WRX tongue out

I think so, though I poached them off my mechanic's workshop hack which is an NZ-new BH Legacy (with 446,000km on the clock!). They're a forged wheel which is nice, a heap lighter than the '04 GT 17"s I had on it. Clear the front brakes by about 5mm. hehe

They're not in great condition up close - bit of kerbing, patchy laquer, covered in tar spots. I'll probably add a dose of gravel-rash to the list before long too.

Looks better than I expected. Nice car, I didn't realise you were in New Zealand.

I'm going the other way with mine, from 17s to 18s. Just waiting for my Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2s to arrive (hopefully tomorrow) then I can crack on with getting them fitted. Gold Revolution Milleniums and Meister R coilovers.

That should stick like a sticky thing on good roads! Enjoy smile

Where did you get them from? I'm looking at getting a set for my WRX to replace the appalling Event tyres it came with.
