Tuning a Forester Turbo

Foresters are heavier which you can really feel around corners and on undulating roads/humps, although that might well be equally due to the softer suspension and taller ride height, and the gearing is different to the WRX.
First up, the Forester is a phenominal car and I love it. It weighs only 60kg ish more which is less than a passenger, so yeah it is the ride height and softer suspension which makes it different in 'the twisties'. I've run my manual 2.5xt for 30k miles and can offer the following advice/info.- 30/31mpg at 75/80mph
- 26mpg average over 30k miles
- Foot to the floor it can do WAY less tho.
- Change tyres from Yokohama Geolanders as they squeal way too easily.
- Hayward and Scott backbox gave mine the perfect burble with no other mods needed.
Let me know if you have any other specific questions

Hi, i've had my 2.5XTN 2005 for over 2 years now.
Awesome car, did not buy it for it's mpg
But they can have problems:
But before doing any mods, my first job would be to check the oil pickup pipe as it can be prone to crack.
Mine did destroying the bottom end. (77k)
Looking at fitting a oil pressure gauge, as the oil pressure switch only operates at approx 4psi
Sorry about being negative but over 3k to rebuild, sort of leaves a sour taste.

2.5k to have fixed in total ... not funny
I've only heard about the oil pickups cracking/breaking on 2.5's. Not something i've ever come across on the 2Ltr lump although newage 2ltr except 2005 model can suffer with oil pump issues and go pop as my old WRX engine did.
Sorry to hear about that. It's never a cheap solution to that problem.

Having just collected a 2005 2.5 xt for the Mrs, we’re currently loving it.
However the oil pick up pipe is a bit of a worry. Has anyone replaced their’s with an uprated one from the US? (can’t remember the company off the top of my head)
The part is only about £120 (plus a bit for import tax) and looks pretty good, but not knowing my way round the engine bay yet, I’m not sure what a good independent would charge to install.
Cheers

I got a 2004 Forester 2.5XT with the PPP in November.
Since then I've done 2k miles. Love it so far.
Fast, great in snow and gets 30mpg on motorway. Over 2k miles has averaged 25mpg.
Can't think of anything else that gives the same performance and capability for the money.
Here's a pic of mine in France:
