Subaru Legacy 3.0 R Y-Piece

Hi,

I'm looking at a Legacy at the moment and worried that the Y section might die and cost me £££££££.


Can new bits be welded in if not what sort of money are you looking at for a fix?

I haven't had mine go yet (55 plate on 85k miles) but looked into it before I bought my Spec B a year ago.

My broad understanding is that welding might be fine until the thing disintegrates (mild steel, apparently), and that the best replacement is a custom stainless steel job which <should> cost around £400, iirc.

Don't let it put you off. The car's magnificent.

I got mine repaired for 70 quid. The exhaust place fabricated a collar to fit over it and welded it in place. It's been on for 2 years now and there's no sign of it failing.
