Hi guys!

I've found myself in need of something practical yet fun to keep for perhaps a year, or longer if I fall in love with it, and hopefully not get too spanked on depreciation. I'd originally been thinking of an MG ZTT, but stumbled across this tempting tease:

http://www.co9westcarsales.co.uk/used-cars/subaru-...

I've always always fancied an Impreza but TBH know very little about them. With this WRX Wagon (particularly given the 102k mileage) am I asking for a world of financial pain from something going wrong??!

BTW that may sound ironic given I've been thinking of an MG(!), but I've done more homework on those and am only considering cars that already have cambelts done / etc. Either way, fuel consumption and servicing costs don't worry me too much as I've run a thirsty beast for quite a few years now, but I wouldn't want something expensive to go bang!

Any views / advice gratefully received, cheers! beer

Well worth a look. One owner and full history really sets it apart and the fact it doesn't have a bean can on the back only lends to the fact it could be a real genuine item. Just check the belts have been done to schedule at 6 years/60k and you'll get it for £2600 with any luck.

They're very reliable cars if looked after and serviced to schedule so I wouldn't worry about it too much. The 2.0 engines are very strong and can take another 20% extra without blinking so it's a perfect platform to get some more power out of if that's your thing. Just look out for any blue smoke on start up and listen for any knocking from the engine. If you get either then walk away. Other things to note would be clutch slip (£700 bill) and knocking from the suspension (£300 per corner - although you can use this to your advantage and get some uprated items with any saving.

If it drives straight and pulls hard around 3500rpm to the redline then it's a winner. Forget the 102k mileage, it's had 10k per year on it which is generally better than the shorter trips you can see on the other models. My Forester is on 116k with essentially the same engine and my Impreza is at 86k.

Go get it because I would.

I looked at this last Saturday.

Absolute mess.... the pictures in the Ad are very flattering.

The paintwork on the bumpers is crazed, the wheels are pretty much beyond repair, the body is covered in dents (including a rusted one on the rear right wheel arch, scratches and generally is in really bad condition.

I didn't even bother to get them to unlock it so I could look inside!

HTH.
