Must be the most expensive single launch in history when it goes up, really hope it doesn't go pop.

First in a series by Smarter Every Day on the JWST, quite a long interview with Dr J Mathers, I really enjoyed it and looking forward to the next episode.

And those air bearings for shifting the thing around are seriously cool.

25 years and $10 Billion in the making, it had better damn well work as advertised.

Wonder if it's insured.

I guess not as it's a government program.

No, Insurance rates would be... astronomical.

The JWST convoy arrives at the ESA facility in French Guiana. It's in a protective, air conditioned enclosure:

Back right is the port of Kourou.
Back left you can see the Salvation Islands, of which Devil's Island of Papillon / Dreyfus Affair fame is the most notorious.

The space telescope being prepared for encapsulation:

It’s a big fellah.

Oops, an uncommanded release of a clamp has led to the launch being delayed again while more checks are carried out!

"Just" a problem with the rocket infrastructure rather than the 'scope apparently.

I’m genuinely excited about the new discoveries the JWST will make. 30 years in the making, I remember reading about it as a kid, before the Hubble had even been repaired.

My mate sent me this today, just one of many theories that this telescope could help corroborate with experimental data:

I actually quite like the sound of this one, seems fitting that dark matter resides in black holes.
