Factually and actually incorrect, didn't know they were so different! Nice to know you know everything in the universebiggrin
It was just a little play on the fact they rhyme.

The ones that cannot be identified might be to do with anything. It's nice that you think you can disclude aliens but others don't.biggrin
I know, there's something I can't tell what it is. Hmm, well, might as well consider the fact it's an alien spaceship then.

Nice to know you know everything in the universe, but for my part, you might as well believe in a god.
Fair enough, I did like the alliteration.

I don't disagree, but the UFO thread is now one of the busiest threads in this forum, and has moved on from ill-informed speculation to some interesting discussion about the physical and engineering challenges of how the little green men could get here.

Pseudo-science can lead to some interesting discussions if looked at from a scientific perspective.
Yeah - but why not just start discussing the clever and smart stuff from the outset - instead of having a dumb diversion into dumbsville first.

Essentially it's not what is being said, it's not who is doing the saying, it's how it's being said that "science" nerds object too.

They are elitist, with a capital E. Folks on internet web forums are only interested in reinforcing their own rational thought processes, no matter what they be...

Except me, obviously, I'm an open book.
Reinforcing rationality - we can't have that.

You can't reinforce rationality, rationalising is a process, it's not an ideal...

If I go to the doctor and he prescribes me medicine and the medicine doesn't work the way I rationalise the reasons for it not working and the steps I take there after may be completely different from yours.

I may go through a decision process that leads me to turn my back on medical science in favour of homoepathy for perfectly rational reasons (reasoning), i.e it made me better.

Do you see how that can work? How rational/reason is not the same as true, or correct or even logical?

It's childish - more in keeping with the lounge - and certainly not appropriate here. All IMO obviously.

Well, as has been said, "woo" is not there simply to deride an argument. It basically describes an argument with no meaning whatsoever.

Example, I had a discussion with a friend of a friend one night about crystals. She is one of these people that hangs a crystal over her bed, in order to correct her chi or some such. When I asked her how it does what it does she said something along the lines of;

"the vibrations of the crystals align with the vibrations of your brain waves, and the electrical impulses of your brain, which are the center of your life force, and it calms these impulses down by modifying their pulse rates giving you harmony within your inner self"

Now crystals may well work, I don't know, but the answer she gave was pure woo. Nothing is explained, nothing is defined, and Deapite people like that having an ability to talk in this way for what seems like hours, you are none the wiser. Therefore it is woo. Utter meaningless explanations.

PS, I think "woo" came about originally because it is the sarcastic thing you say when something mystical is talked about.

It's haunted that house there, innit!
Wooooooo!

Yeah, it's not as if you'd find actual cancer surgeons using the term, is it?

Not much to add apart from rofl @ this thread.

I'd never really used the term until I noticed it appearing in this sub forum. I've used it merely because others are and it seemed everyone would instantly know your meaning. In my mind it sums up sentiments perfectly.
