Just wanted to say thanks for all your suggestions.

Went for a Halfords 6 drawer tool chest https://www.halfords.com/tools/storage/tool-chests-and-cabinets/halfords-6-drawer-tool-centre-615314.html
Plus an assortment of Halfords Professional tools.
The tool box seems okay, castors were a bit awkward to fit; tools are good quality and I'm quite impressed for the price.

People scoff but Halfords Professional stuff is decent, maybe not quite as good as it used to be.

All their stuff has a lifetime no quibble warranty, which I've been using (and on occasions abusing) for the last 20 years.

I’m perfectly happy with my Halfords Pro stuff, (sockets and spanners), and like you, I’ve had most of it for 20 years or so.

Looks identical to the one I've had for 7 or 8 years. The draw sliders aren't quite as smooth as more expensive ones, and the cabinet doors feel a little flimsy, but it does the job nicely and IMO is great for the budget. I bought some cheap e-bay non slip matting to go in the bottom of the drawers to stop stuff sliding about.

Old carpet tiles cut to size make great drawer liners.

I used a yoga/camping matt material to line the draws on my tool drawers, some tools have cut outs others I've kept in the packing or bought socket rails for.

Another good tip for staying organised, a lot of spanners, screw drivers, pliers etc all come in plastic inserts which can be laid into the draws rather than having everything loose .

Or you can go totally wild and spend a fortune or lot of time/effort getting polystyrene and cutting out templates of all your tools which is bloody brilliant.
