Who now makes Quantum oil?

I have always been a VW guy so it always made sense to use Quantum oil from TPS. It’s cheap as chips and meets the VW standard.
Currently have a Mk6 CR 2.0 TDI and along with using Costco premium diesel I have no DPF/EGR problems (grabbing wood!). 20k in my possession, currently at 120k. Just normal driving. At £20 for 5L it’s cheap enough to change every 5k.

I see it also meets LL04 BMW standards. My O/H’s 2011 Mini Cooper S currently uses Castrol Edge but it gets driven as it should. Respectfully but briskly. I can’t see a reason not to use the Quantum and change every 5k.

So do we know who currently manufactures? I was advised it used to be Fuchs which I’m more than happy with.

Used to be Castrol. Changed to Fuchs in the last 12 months.

I wouldn’t worry who makes it. VW are prepared to put their name on the back of the label and it meets their specs.

The prices dropped when Fuchs took over.

Quantum is now also manufactured in China and sold in the Cube box. Do we know that it is backed by VW and meets the spec’s stated on the box

I've noticed Mannol branded oil that also meets VW standards is available even cheaper on eBay - any reason to not use it?

There is a difference between OEM Approved oil and the oil manufacturer claiming/recommending an oil for a given spec. If you're being ultra cautious I'd stick with OEM Approved which has been tested and confirmed to meet the standard. I believe some Mannol oils have OEM approval but not many.

I use Mannol in sheds because it's hilariously cheap especially if you're buying 10L or 20L drums, but I stick with actual approved oils on anything I care about.

There are also endless jokes about filling your car up with Man Oil, and expecting a man to make a large delivery or Man Oil later today. Man Oil sell ATF too, so you get to make Man Oil and Tranny Oil jokes too.

Can't seem to find out where Redex oil is sourced from, Tesco knock it out fairly cheap when it's on offer. Thinking about using it in our Fiesta runabout, it seems good enough for the annual/6k mile oil change.

I had to look up "cube box of oil" as I don't think I've seen one, and found they are also referred to as "lube cubes"

I have been using Shell Helix 5/40 for years but see that 20 litres of it is £166, compared to £77 for the same quantity & spec of Mannol.

The Mannol meets the specs I need (BMW, Merc & VW) but the brand is something of an unknown quantity to me and seems almost *too* cheap (or do the big brands take the pee with their markups?).

Any reason why I shouldn't buy the Mannol oil? Thanks.

I've always overlooked it but to be honest if it meets all the specs then I see no issues.
I probably wouldn't use it in something exotic but in a daily that gets its oil changed regularly it seems a no brainer.

I chickened out and went for another 20L of Shell Helix. Found it on eBay for £120 (versus Opieoils' £166). I am happy to pay the premium for what (I hope) is a top brand with (hopefully) a top additives package.

I've used Granville oil for a few years as it's cheap from a local factors, they are probably on a par with each other I'd guess.

I've used Smith & Allen as well with no issues. Especially for axles & gearboxes.
