Does anyone know anything about tents?

I've decided I'd like to go camping. I like the idea of a caravan, but I don't like the idea of towing, getting in people's way, and the stress on my car. So, I think a nice tent would do, along with my car for comfy seats / living room.

Trouble is, I'm all befuddled by it. I probably would want a fairly spacious tent, as I'm rather tall. And something that's likely to keep dry would be nice too.

Are tents easy to put up by yourself?
