Are we ok to discuss the 5th book yet?

Is Jon going to stay dead does anyone reckon? More I think about it the more I reckon he will live. And I hope he fks some people up for the betrayal!

I just read the Red Wedding chapter today.

Bloody hell. GRRM isn't one to encourage complacency in his readership, is he? Talk about brutal....

Abel was the minstrel at the Boltons place who was sent there to rescue "Ayra/Jeyne"

Yeah...pretty gutting that chapter. he wrote that last because it was a bit of an emotional tug.

Yeah, ditto, I raced through my read and missed that also...there is so much going on there I am sure there are clues in those scenes, a lot of questions...who was that fella that Theon bumped into on the wall?

Is it a betrayal though? I mean, Jon did pretty much destroy 1000’s of years of culture/ritual/history with his recent actions. I had a discussion on reddit with someone aboot this. And they just didn't seem to get how badly Jon was ripping up the NW charter. I reckon Donal or someone started the black vote (or whatever it will be called very early on). Imagine the King of England letting all the commoners stay at Buck Palace, and turning over all the Monarch homes to the plebs, or the Pope inviting Jews and Muslim into the Vatican to stay and whoop it up, under the eyes of the Cardinals. It was only ever gonna end bad for Jon Snow, he knows nothing!biggrin..I hope he can get past it without too much bloodshed and...dunno, not sure what happens next, will the wall fall?

Pure speculation but what I think will happen is that Jon isnt dead, he is the PWP and will rise again, possibly be AA and will have Lightbringer. Dany will invade Westeros with the Dornish and will end up marrying Jon. Jaime and Briene will end up married and run the Lannister stuff. Tyrion will end up as Commander of the Night Watch. Stannis is going to be dead. Not sure what Bran is up to.

Ayra is going to be an assasin obviously. No idea about Sansa, hopefully something nasty will happen to her. Varys will continue doing what Varys does.

Problem is there are so many threads I cant see how its going to be finished in 2 books despite GRRM saying it will. I honestly reckon this will go on for another 10+ years!

The NW was formed to guard the realms of men, it just so happened that with the 'Others' seemingly dormant this became preventing wilding raids instead. All of Jon's actions in bringing the wildings into the realm to help man the wall were not at all a betrayal of the NW.

What was a betrayal was his declaration that he would lead an army against Ramsey. ?

I reckon he might be able to do it, the home stretch is in sight I reckon, if we get two books like SoS.
Things I hope for? Jon, Tyrion, Dany trio. Jamie get's his comeuppance (buggered or butchered), basically all Lannisters die save for Tyrion.
Arya does something, Varys does something. Sansa...not sure yet. Bran becomes the new whitewood thingy, and Rickon becomes Lord of Winterfell.
LF is the truly ambiguous one...what is his endgame/motives? Not sure what I want to become of him.
I was a bit miffed that the Hound may not be dead after reading reddit...I hope he doesn't come back, or really is dead
Oh and Ramsey, Freys and Roose get the most vile of deaths/punishment.

Whatever the origins, the Others vanished out of sight and NW became the de facto guard against wildings who became the only problem. The Others became legend/religion. Hence Jon's actions being the betrayal and turning 8000 years upside down.

Halb I disagree, taking on the wildlings wasnt what got him killed. They were tolerating that but it was getting involed with Ramsey that was the reason. "The Night Watch takes no part" meant he was an oath breaker. The wildlings were useful

They didn’t all decide to vote him one stab a man at that wilding meeting. It was pretty clear it was going on for a while, and everything he did pushed them towards it. From the pov of the watch he is a reckless and crazy leader. The decision to attack Ramsey was most likely the final straw, but it wasn't only that decision that got him the stabby stabby treament.biggrin

Haven't read the rest of this thread as I don't want to pick up any spoilers, but I have just finished the first book in the series. Thought it was great, and you pick up so much more than the TV show was able to show. Although saying that I am glad I watched the show first as...

Ned's death

... was done much better on TV IMO, and was more of a shock than in the book.

I have book 2 ready and waiting, but I am torn as to whether to start it now or wait for season 2 of the TV series.

Yes, it was stunning in the show. Are you aware of this thread?
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
It is for the Telly series and no spoilers allowed.

I had the same dilemma over the show/book thing. choose to start the book after the series finished. I then decided to have a test, read the second book next and then watch the show...however once I started I couldn't stop and then went and read them all.

yes I've posted in that thread. Stopped following it though as despite the separate books thread the discussions tended to go that way and I was reading more than I'd like to about the story lines ahead.

I won't read too much in this thread for the same reason but thought I'd chip in my opinion having just finished book 1. Still undecided yet as to whether to start book 2, but I have a stack of Evo magazines to catch up on before I start another book anyway so I'll see how I feel once those are out of the way!

Who's PWP? cat figgure out that TLA

My thoughts on the series just finished ADWD

I have grown to like Jamie and hope he doesn't get a comeuppance from Caitlin.

Jon's story is moving along nicely and had wondered if it was liana that was his mother and not Ned. I don't think he will die but hadn't thought of melisandre taking him back to life.

Was surprised that we are still in meeran but looks like the way she gets across to westeros is using the horn that the iron born are carrying and using there plus other ships to get all the unsullied across, not sure how tyrion is going to get involved though. But her stories def mooving with all three dragons loose and her riding one.

sansa's story seems to hae taken a back burner as that will be interesting in the northmen story, my guess is it's as PB says the vale will win the north for her and I am assuming thats how Bolten etc gets taken care of with the help from white harbour.

I'm liking what's happening to cerise and can see Highgarten joining with the aegon, And my first thoughs were that it's the mountain that is the silent knight.

and I wondered where Varis would re appear but didn't expect it there.

Also are Jamie and Cerisi not tywin's? As i'm sure raegar took lord's right's the night of his tywin's wedding.

I think its almost definite the mountain is the silent knight as its been aluded to several times, ie the skull not being accurate when it was sent to Dorne etc. Also wasnt the disgraced Maester (Qyborn?) working on the body in the last book?

I reckon Ive now read so many different theories online that I cant actually remember which are in the books and which are theories!
