Hello,

We're moving into our first house soon and are lucky enough to have a decent double garage.

Once we're settled I would like to start learning about engines and try to take maybe an old quad bike engine apart, fix it and put it back together again. Could also be a generator or even a lawnmower engine and if it goes well I would move up to maybe a 4 cylinder car engine.

I've had a look in the search and have seen several suggestions which I have saved but most if not all are quite old books now. The most commonly recommended one was: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1557882452/ref...

I was interested to see if someone had newer recommendations perhaps, particularly if its a book published in the UK.

When I needed to know how engines work someone gave me the AA book of Car Maintenance. I have a lot of books about engines but this one is where it started.

Back to basics. smile

Then, moving on, the definitive guide to working on air cooled 6 cylinder Porsche engines, written by Wayne Dempsey of Pelican fame.
