Odd as I always thought the Cortina Mk II looked more like the Camaro. The 1967 Cortina was the Mk II. It had a Cortina script on the bootlid similar to the 1st gen Camaro.
It had a central badge in the middle of the grille with an elongated C and a crown on the top (I've got one in my garage funnily enough) in either blue or red. The GT had a shield on the rear quarters with GT fitted into it (think may have one of those somewhere too) and the 1600E had a simple rectangular bootlid badge and a sort of thin tricolour wing on the rear pillars. The Ford corporate oval appeared on the wings. The early Cortina had the FORD lettering across the bonnet.
Most pics are too grainy to make the badges out.
I've got some original Ford b/w press photos of the Mk II which I'll have to scan into one of these websites too.

My MkIII 'General Lee' at Snetterton. I don't think that I'd just overtaken the Radical behind... but it was going rather well! It's got a 2.8 V6 in it at the moment, was bought off eBay as a comedy motor but I've had it over a year and a half now and it just keeps entertaining.
It's due off the road again in the next couple of months for major surgery.

that general lee mk3 must be local to snetterton, it was ouside sainsburys in thetford the other day.

I wouldn't mind one now with a good modified engine and some loverly deep dish retro alloys.
The Mk3 is actually a very nice looking car, especially if you can find a rare 2-door. The steering leaves a lot to be desired though.... but sort that out, get a nice LS(X) engine under the bonnet, built the rest of the car to suit... ok, I'll stop day-dreaming now... .

The steering does take some sorting, but a quickrack, small steering wheel, polybushes and uprated springs help. I'd appreciate recommendations for some retro alloys as the current 14" jobs won't fit soon.
I've just bought a '94 Ford Thunderbird SC to donate alloy 3.8 supercharged V6, five spd alloy box and independent rear suspension with an LSD

I've changed them all myself too, but 'every year' is a bit OTT.
Maybe every 40,000 miles. Easy enough with the special tool.
They were THE repmobile, and as such were designed to be super reliable, and cheap to fix.
I ran virtually every variation as daily workhorses over a 10 year period.
I still recall seeing my first Cortina Mk III GXL in that sort of light metallic sage green with a black vinyl roof. God those cars looked absolutely ground-breakingly achingly stunning to an 11 year old in a world of Morris Marinas and Hillman Avengers. It was one of the landmark designs of my youth. Still pretty dire to drive though.

Ahh, the Avenger was a damn good car.
My first car in fact and they were rather nicely styled, especially those "hockey stick" rear lights on the early model.

Ahh, cortinas. My Dad had a string of estate all through the seventies and early eighties. My mate in the trade got an '82 'carousel' (two tone metallic green) as a trade-in back in about 1998, and let me have it for £75. I insured it for £400 though! Lo and behold someone rear-ended me a few months later, left a small ding under the bumper, but it was written off, so I got to keep the car and got a handy few quid! It was the only car I've ever owned I made a profit on...
