I think this just shows how the "ruling elite" look at interfering with their business much more seriously than crimes against people - property or life itself.

Individuals do not matter any more, the only important thing is the perpetuation (sustaining and expanding) the system itself.

What an ass the law is! or rather what an ass that copper and those dim magistrates are - but then speed traps fill the coffers of coppers.
Disillusioned? You bet! I wouldn't lift a finger to help or assist any copper today - I gave up after the last two occasions - followed a lorry with loads of dangerously loaded pallets falling off (phoned 999 and they were more interested in who I was and where I came from etc) - chased a thief and got some goods retrieved (not even a thank you).
Sad inditement of Blair World so I just look after number 1 - totally.

I've got a tenner for the good old chap....

also, if I mention to someone that they are just parking on double yellow lines (and they hadn't noticed for argmnets sake) they thank me and move elsewhere...have I now commited a crime, more seriously what if I stop a burgler (with no physical force or guns, simply maybe by noticing and shouting oy!) have I commited an offence as the police won't be able to follow up the burglary and take fingerprints etc...have I inadvertantly stopped the course of justice.

sheesh i wish there was a smiley for 'exasperated'

My local "Safety Camera Partenership" put their own signs out warning of the mobile speed trap van up ahead. I wonder if this is illegal? Means you've got to be pretty dozey to get nicked by them.

£10 here as well. Although I am a little concerned the story may not be all it seems Sect 89(2) Police Act 1996 makes it an offence to wilfully obstruct a Police Officer in the execution of his duties it is a summary offence but the punishment is up to one month imprisonment and/or a fine up to scale 3. No mention of driving bans that I can see, can any bib suggest how such a ban was imposed.

As people have said, how can a guy who is attempting to slow traffic down at an 'accident blackspot', (it must of been, the police were there), be abusing anything. The police should b more concerned about slowing traffic down by any means neccessary, rather than sitting there, quite happy for people to speed through an area of high public use, and endanger peoples lives! The guy should be applauded.

Just out of interest, anyone know which magistrates this occured in? This cannot remain unforgiven, he should not get a driving ban and a hefty fine like that... the crime does not fit the punishment! No wander I've noticed so many of the forces Gatso's going up in flames recently.... bas***ds!

He wasn't obstructing though, was he. The argument applied, through extension, would mean we should all be banned for obeying speed limits.

The whole thing is completely bizarre. They're just making it up as they go along now.

In light of the potential publicity, could I remind people to choose their words carefully before contributing to the thread.

I do wonder if somebody is not making something up. yertis i did not say I agreed with him being found guilty, magistrates do some odd things, but the potential punishments on conviction do not include a driving ban, unless a different section was used or the Law has been amended. Even the oddest magistrate cannot impose a penality different to that set in the Law. If he did the Clerk would have to interfer and the magistrate would quickly be removed from the bench.

Ted, in view of your request I have picked my words carefully:

The law is an ass - the UK is going down the plughole - I can't wait to emigrate.
