This is sad to hear Me and some friends have been planning to do a trackday tour holiday this summer, I hope CC will not have to be scratched from the list...

Unfortunatly it smacks of the super-PC attitude these days, that 1 or 2 people can complain that their Quality of Life has been infringed and no good can ever outweigh it. 10m is the equivelant of a 50k salary for 200 people, there'd better be a hell of alot of complaints to justify the consequences!

I have done a few rounds of the combe saloon car championship, its a fantastic circuit and they are very hot on noise level , the trouble is they cannot measure the induction noise level and my old 205 was very loud in that department.
Its a real shame though the circuit has really come on in the last 4/5 years.

These "do-gooders" don't have an micron of sense between them. Why oh why must the motoring enthusiast suffer again and again for these old buggers wanting to put a stop to our fun. Let's have an up-rising, start some fires and have a riot. Loot the shops in Castle coombe village and see what they have to winge about then.

WHO's WITH ME?

I think rather that i'd have a leaflet campain promoting Castle Combe and all the good it does to the local economy. Rent the church hall for a night and invite people along to "show their support". No doubt the people making the complaints will turn up, then they may be "educated" as to why they are wrong.....

No if you want the winging minority to turn up, make the flyer about noise nuisance and Castle Combe. Then educate them.

With a one way trip to another country.

Response from one of the councillors I contacted:

Richard Watkins said:
Dear James,

Thanks for your e mail. I live in the parish of Castle Combe, race Formula Ford, and agree with your sentiments. Please rest assured I will be doing my utmost to have this ban lifted.

Thanks for your support.

Some objections stated:

Yatton Keynall Parish Council said:
The application is another example of drip feed from the Circuit to break down the resolve of local residents.

Yatton Keynall Parish Council said:
Impact of noise on the quiet enjoyment by resident and visitors alike of the area's beauty ... although noise emission controls are in place, the subjective effects of engine noise and tyre squeal during events at the circuit impact keenly on local residents. There are many complaints

Really, then why in their God's good name did them move next to a freaking racing crcuit?

It goes on, and on, the whole of it is here:
www.northwilts.gov.uk/index/env/planning/env_planning-committee_decisions/env_planning-dev_con_agendas/agenda_for_committee_16th_february_2005/16.02.2005_-_04.02558.s73a

It's making me quite annoyed reading it, so I'm going to stop now...

Hi Guys,

I live in the area and do a lot of track-days at Combe so just had to get involved in this. Oddly, I got the same reply as miniman above!

Dear Mark,

Thanks for your e mail. I live in the parish of Castle Combe, race Formula Ford, and agree with your sentiments. Please rest assured I will be doing my utmost to have this ban lifted.

Thanks for your support.

Richard Watkins
Councillor NWDC

Thank God they have some sensible sounding people (with proper hobbies!) on the Council!
Makes you wonder if they thought they could squeeze this through and everyone would just roll over....

Power to the People!

Wolfie.

I wrote to all of the councillors and have so far got six replies (including the one above!) all positive and three which said or implied that they knew nothing about it until being contacted - If you are writing guys keep it polite - It makes me angry too but a ranting letter or email is very easy to dismiss.

This is crazy.

As the article says only those that have lived in the area for more than 50years have any right to complain and then only if the noise had increased.

This smacks of the same sort of people who move near Heathrow and then complain about aircraft noise.

The sickening thing for me (as a Human with Morals, not as a Race-Fan) is that these people have moved to Combe, a lovely little village, on thier own accord. Nobody has forced them to go! they have made a choice, knowing full well that there will be a racetrack in thier back garden. As you mention, noise levels have not increased, so the situation hasn't got "worse" sincesince they moved. If it stops being used then the houses will become more desirable and more expensive, ooh look, They residents stand to financially gain

I have two plans.

1) We pass a bill that only allows PetrolHeads to move in to houses at Castle Combe. That way they will ask for the noise levels to be increased (Minimum Db Level anyone??)

2) If the event gets cancelled ifeel that we should "pay homage" to the track by going there anyway on the proposed GT race Date. Wouldn't it be a shame if a large number of V8s happened to be there at the time.

I do not condone this behaviour

Copy E mail from a local resident friend of mine:

On their website www.castlecombecircuit.co.uk there is an item linked from the front page which gives a list of all councillors with email addresses etc.

Richard Watkins represents the ward including Castle Combe, he races there and is in favour of getting the noise ban dropped. The one who is pushing for it is Jean Scott who lives in and represents the ward including Yatton Keynel the village you pass just before the circuit if coming from the Chipenham direction. Apparently the council officers raised the nuisance order without it going to committee so most of the councillors knew nothing about it. Its worth getting people to contact all not just the local councillors because there is a push to get it referred to committee and thus get the members to have it lifted without the circuit having to challenge it.

I had one reply so far form one councillor who is not a happy bunny. It would appear that NWDC have begun this action without any consultation with the eleceted representativs being asked or told. He has already got one newspaper involved in this and agrees with the benefit Combe brings to the area.
Yatton Kendal is a little way from the circuit and is a village where you would expect this sort of action from well healed individuals who want thier own way.

I'm sure they would come to their senses when we show them that the only alternative we have is to drive at 3/4 throttle in 1st gear drive through theirs and the adjacent villages at 7am every Sunday morning.
