But they needed to understand what the tyre performance was today, if they expect to have the same engine power as Ferrari on Sunday.
I don't see it happening. Mind you Manor have similar power to Ferrari and McLaren are comfortably ahead of them.
not gospel but I believe manor are still running the 2014 spec power unitI don't see it happening. Mind you Manor have similar power to Ferrari and McLaren are comfortably ahead of them.
The problem if you're 150 bhp down, as they've reportedly been for much of the season, is that you don't really get to see what the chassis can do because you have to try to reduce drag to minimise your losses on the straights, which means removing downforce from the car. On the two tracks with minimal straights where they've been able to put downforce back on the car they've been in the points, even with their power deficit. I think as they turn up the power more they'll also start being able to run the levels of downforce they want to.

We keep hearing about how if you take away the power issues the McLaren is supposed to have a goodman his. Every time you see them its understeering or wobbling all over the place!
Are you sure they have a goodman his? What is your source?Mermaid said:

With a 10 place grid penalty for Vestappen, he could be worth watching in the race.

My (uninformed) guess is Ferrari already have an option on him and we will see him in red attire in 2017.

I thought the rules were that all the mods to engines must filter down to the customer units - particularly remember Williams saying this about the Merc engine - saying they were always on exactly the same power unit as the works team.GreigM said:
