I think the fans and media sometimes don't give Rosberg the credit he deserves for staying the course against Lewis, he's come off second best at every turn since they've been team mates and all through their careers, but he's held it together this year and capitalised on the chances that have come his way.
I think it would be pretty easy to let that all get to you and fluff it, but he hasn't so far this season.
Thats precisely what most people have against him though, he's generally 2nd best when it counts but becasue of lewis atrocious run of reliability and nicos teflon coating has awarded him a commanding lead that simple doesnt do justice. If he'd been 2nd best but consistent while lewis was brilliant but had made a few crash bungles or dodgy moves for penalties to get here I think more people would be accepting of his position even if they still felt he was the 2nd best man in the team.I think it would be pretty easy to let that all get to you and fluff it, but he hasn't so far this season.
Nico could be about to face some very stern challenges yet. The season isn't over yet. He's had the benefit of better luck so far this year, but this is a critical race - he could have the championship won, or he could be only a point ahead by 9:00pm tonight.
He's driven well, better than people like to admit, but he might yet have to show some serious mettle to take this championship and that would silence everyone.
From Lewis's perspective, he's not done much wrong recently. He will keep trying to pile the pressure on and take the title to the wire. I hope we have some real drama yet !

The tarmac used on this track is very strange, its polishing the tyre rather than allowing a chemical binding.
What will be key tomorrow will be who can switch the tyres on, because if they cant, they will be nowhere. More so than any other race this year.
I got the impression that it was specific to the Super Soft compound, allied to a spike in track temps yesterday compared to FP3? It could explain Ferrari dropping pace on that tyre vs Soft after looking good on it on Friday/FP3.What will be key tomorrow will be who can switch the tyres on, because if they cant, they will be nowhere. Don't remember these problems last year when they used Soft/Medium?

When I got a car back from Mexico last year from the Historic F1 support race the fronts were polished, most of the rear was also polished but where it was generating some heat in a small section of the tread they were massively grained. I've not seen anything like that from anywhere else.

Out of the older ones, I thought Rindt was class. Andretti seemed to be in a class of his own in the Lotus. Other than those two, it is always worth challenging whether they were worthy of the WDC. Some came close to two WDCs, Villeneuve lost by the mere fact he had a faster team mate one year. Mansell was a puncture away from two. Giuseppe Farina 1950

I thought the most underrated of drivers was Damon Hill. Even after winning one WDC he was dismissed as 'lucky', as if every other WDC wasn't to some extent. He was the only team mate of Prost to lap him in F1 I think without him suffering some dramatic problem. Other than being slow in the rain at Donington that is. I did a lot of research, posted it on an F1 fanzine I ran and awaited the list of races where he had been lapped, but nothing came.
My way of looking at it is that there should be some fixed rules, say points for finishing high up in the race, to be added up at the end of the season to show who was worthy of the WDC. Get that in position and all the arguments will end.
Mind you, that would be a terrible shame.
I, too, thought Hill was better than popular history makes out. I think his weariness and generally human demeanor contrasted poorly with the young, invincible smugness of Schumacher, and his confidence was doubtless undermined from within and without but he drove an absoloute blinder in Japan '94- he'd have lost the championship if he finished lower third, instead he won the thing in rain that would have had the whole race under a safety car today.

I remember thinking back in the day he was lucky to become champion, my mind changed after his Arrows and Jordan drives and looking back at the races now i think he was better than I thought but was too normal a chap off the track, he lacked (as you say) confidence and bullishness of Schumacher.Back to the GP: I'm using a friend's laptop so haven't got my bookmarks.
If anyone could let me have a link to live timing giving gaps and sector times I'd be grateful.
I'm sitting with a Ferrari fan. Considering there are two McLaren supporters with him - I'm one - it seems odd that he's the one who is really depressed about next season. He reckons that Ferrari will manage to get things wrong.
He was very positive about Vettel even as late as mid season but now thinks that he's not putting in enough effort. Sulking is his thought.
No one wants Rosberg to win, the consensus being that they (we as well) want the WDC to go to the last race.

Interesting, thanks. Avon tyres right? When I got a car back from Mexico last year from the Historic F1 support race the fronts were polished, most of the rear was also polished but where it was generating some heat in a small section of the tread they were massively grained. Just checked the live timing online and track temps were showing 56 degrees to 19 degree ambient for yesterday! Supposed to be similar today according to the forecast.
For the race, I'd like to see the Mercs running 1-2 to with Lewis running 2nd to see if Merc are prepared to allow their drivers to fight against each other via strategy. I think Lewis has the pace to win here, so it would be cool to see him pressuring Rosberg for the win...and to see if Rosberg can handle it.
