You may wish to avoid the after race show in Austin. They are having the effervescent Ms Taylor Swift perform a few songs once all the noisy car stuff has finished.
I assume she's performing after a Nascar event then? wink

I am joking, by the way.

Looking forward to Silverstone this weekend, I've been travelling for a week so I just caught up on Austin this afternoon (I knew the result already, shame as it was obviously a cracking race to watch live). I'm on the road again this Sunday, heading up the M1 past Silverstone as soon as the race ends. I'm guessing it'll be busy!

Indeed, or ideally have no bands and drop the price of the tickets? I'd need paying to watch that 'entertainment'.

If people want to watch Texas and Scouting For Girls then there are plenty of opportunities to do that, such as MumRock 2016, Butlins etc etc.
This is Formula 1! The pinnacle! Not Woolworths.

Texas Homebase would be more Rock 'n'Roll. Not very James Hunt, is it?
The concert is mostly to stop people all heading out the car park at the same time, straight after the end of the race. I am inclined to agree with you in that having more support races into the evening would bring a lot of fans to hang around. However, some dispensation is needed for the non-fans accompanying everyone else ...
Yes, you are right, but I'd be running for my car/helicopter as soon as any of those 'quality acts' took to the stage. Easy to see how the car parks would get jammed as soon as "I don't wanna lover" begins.

Why not have historic Formula1 cars doing demos, such as the mid 90's Williams etc? Something actually relevant to Formula 1? Or open the circuit up so people can walk around it, taking photos, having a picnic etc etc? That would allow people time to decide when they are ready to leave, at zero cost.

Having terminally 'naff' bands is just wrong. People who have some kind of half-decent taste in music are alienated. People want to watch Formula 1, not turgid/kiddie bands playing their greatest hit(s) etc.

Maybe I'm totally wrong. Maybe people have to be 'entertained' regardless of the quality, but the sport/circuit are really missing a trick here. It is a golden opportunity for marketing to thousands of people. Companies will happily pay Silverstone for that, NOT Silverstone paying for a has been line up of bands that were only ever 'cheesy' at best. Bonkers!

I'll sort it out for 2017, for a small fee.

Monza open the track after the race - I don't understand why more don't. There isn't much that can be damaged / removed, and it would balance the flow of people leaving.

Everyone can take a tyre marble home.... smile

Yeah, it's great to stand on the pit straight 30s after the last car has passed smile

Loved monza, berni should be shot for threatening it. Can't work out why he hasn't woken up with a horses head yet.

All negotiations... typical Bernie. The only person that can go into a revolving door behind you and come out in front.

Rosberg and Hamilton completed some runs on the Medium tyre in FP1 and Hamilton was around 0.3s/lap faster than Rosberg. Advantage Hamilton for now.
Sky were tracking the runs and reckoned that in FP2 Ricciardo's run on the Soft gave the same average lap time as Hamilton's with Vettel just a little slower. Interesting! however, I suspect that the Mercedes was turned down, they seem to dial them back a bit for practice and give it the full beans for qualifying/race so it could well be false.

I don't expect Rosberg's lack of running to diminish his pace, even if it stays dry.
Agreed, Hamilton, Ricciardo and Verstappen all averaged 1:37.4 on the Softs on similar stint lengths. But Hamilton put in a couple of 1:35s laps at the start of the stint, which suggests there was more performance in the Merc. I too, fully expect a Merc to get pole and probably win the race but it should be close. Can't quite get a read on where Ferrari are at the moment, but Raikkonen's run on the Softs averaged a tenth slower than RB/Hamilton with similar stint lengths, so they should be thereabouts I think.

Alonso looked like a man on a mission, on the pace straight away and his long runs were on Williams pace. Williams don't show big one lap pace on Friday and their long runs are a fair reflection of their actual race pace, but it will be interesting to see how things evolve tomorrow. I think Q3 positions for McLaren on merit. It also looked like McLaren were more comfortable on the Medium rather than the Soft tyre?

Umm, silverstone does open the track up after the race. The gates are opened around club and the straight to let folk watch the podium ceremony.
And around other parts of the circuit (it's a bloomin nightmare trying to get back on the marshal shuttle bus with thousands of zombies wandering over the track stopping to take selfies, oblivious to the bus trying to get through.)

Texas and scouting for girls are playing tonight. Tomorrow Mike and the mechanics are on. Sunday there is a Sex Pistols tribute act plus the fan forum.

Wow, a line up from what era? Go Silverstone! wink

Thanks for the track info though, that has changed since my last visit.

I suspect he would have installed a turnstile so you have to pay for using the door too.

Entry, exit and per revolution. Plus each person that saw you going into the door.

Of course the actual owner of the door would have to pay Bernie for him to use it too!

Rain is heading towards the midlands and could be pretty heavy - its over Wales at the moment and fast moving towards the east but drifting slowly north at the same time.

Might just drift more towards Birmingham - but if it does stay on track we might see a very wet quali!

Currently torrential in the n/w!

I think it will take about 2 to 2.5 hours to pass so might get away with it, depends how quick track drys. The rain at the mo is light compared to whats behind it!
Large patches of 25mm/hr over wales at the moment and some small areas of 35-40mm/hr......

Looks like it will drift north and miss the circuit other than one small patch which is due in the next half hour.

Feeling pretty changeable now in the campsite, so very hot when it's out but spots of rain on and off.
