The in-race commentator on C4 (Lee McKenzie?) wears me out with his hysterical commentary carried out at frantic football commentator pitch and volume.
No the commentary is done by Alex Jacques. Lee McKenzie is a woman.

Something I didn't realise is that Alex Jacques and Jolyon Palmer (who is a far better pundit that F1 driver!) and the American guy (whose name I forget) are actually the commentators for the International F1TV feed.

So when you have those 3, and no DC, Ch4 are just using the F1TV international feed with zero input from Channel 4. Must make it cheaper.

In the UK you cant subscribe to the F1TV feed on the F1.com website because Sky exists here.

There's a whole thread about how to subscribe to F1TV.

And having Mark Wahlrberg ( sp ) on and fawning all over him.

Seemed as though he didn't want to be there in the first place.

Think I’ll probably watch the Las Vegas race on CH4.

No issues with Crofty, but slightly anti-social timing means I’ll try to avoid the result and spoilers, and watch it ‘live’ on CH4 in the more convenient Sunday lunchtime slot.

It’ll make a change.

If I do watch it, I watch the free sky highlights on sky entertainment package... Technically not free I guess but no the huge sport package pricing....

Ah, cuprabob, of course! Put it down to senility! Whatever the man's name is, I wish he'd calm down anyway.

It's the constant stupid things like...
This is the best overtake we've ever seen in F1

This grand Prix will go down as legendary

Could this be the most successful team in F1 of all time

This is the greatest comeback drive of all time

Although the Grand Prix Highlights on Channel 4 starts at 12.30 I’m not going to tune in until at least 12.50. I might miss something important but it’s unlikely. Normally the first 15/20 mins are taken up with repeated bits or Steve Jones, all of which I can do without.

Really I want a programme that shows the race highlights and F1 drivers being interviewed, being asked by someone with racing experience what went wrong or how did you do so well. Lee, Jamie or Billy do that well. Nothing else.

Please no drivers being asked what they had for breakfast as in some of the filmed interviews by non racing prats.

I was so glad when the actual race started...
The first five minutes of Steve & Dave’s intro. vomit
Twenty five minutes of bilge, inc the celebs & a Hamilton promo.

I was dreading a long & OTT presentation ceremony... but thankfully it was quite normal.
(Apart from the RB outfits... especially Max’s, just needed a cape to finish it off).

Milkyway is 100% correct.

Not once did they mention strategy, tyres, expected pitstop windows, likely number of pitstops, likely number of safety cars of VSC. Red flags, where overtaking opportunities would lie, who was likely to win, who was likely to go backwards, weather, temperatures etc.

We did get to hear Hamilton talking to Jones about his interest in burger restaurants and documentary making.

So Verstappen was wrong when he said it was 99% about the show and 1% about the racing. The C4 build up was 0% about the racing.

They had Billy monger, Jamie Chadwick and Ariana Bravo (is that her real or stage name) as pundits. None of them have ever been in FIA F4, let alone F3, F2 or F1. They add nothing. They just detract. They should stick to DC, Palmer and Webber as pundits. They have F1 experience and are far better pundits as a result. I guess they just don't tick the important to someone, but not F1 fans, boxes.

Merely having been an F 1 driver doesn't mean anyone is suitable to commentate. Nigel Mansell is living proof of that. Billy M is turning out to be a good addition , and I was wrong in having had low hopes for him in this role . Ariane Bravo is very much the modern colour commentator - she was a regular on Autosport podcast explaining to old farts like me what was trending on Twitter or the message being given by Lando's new haircut - like I gave a st about either - but some do .

I sigh and moan about some of the coverage but that sys more about me than it does the show. I've watched F1 since the 70s, often live, and I loathe the tribalism and silly name calling by folk who are spoonfed opinions.

This was only my 4th race watched this year ,4 more than 2022 BTW , at least the race was good and during the race there was only 2 celebs in pits moments , David Beckham at an Aston pit stop and Rihanna in dark glasses ,at near midnight !

I switch off almost straight after the chequered [with Bieber rolleyes]as I cannot tolerate the BS radio messages and all the boring analysis of every little detail .

I won't be returning as even an occasional watcher of this clown circus .

Due to the odd timing, I watched it on CH4 and it served its purpose.

Enough preamble at the start to set the scene and get a feel for the ‘glitz and glamour’.
Excellent race, and commentary - I thought, and the usual review at the end to summarise the key elements.

In some ways, preferred the condensed format to Sky’s ‘total’ coverage. Don’t mind Sky’s detailed analysis, but too many irrelevant and repetitive side features.

Although, fully accept that they are all trying to boost F1’s entertainment value to a wider audience and future demographic.

I don't remember seeing a circuit diagram showing the sectors and DRS zones etc. It's a bit pointless saying who's quicker in Sector 2 if you don't know what that sector comprises. Virtually no race-related background whatsoever.

One of the main points of F1 for me is the advanced technology and how that might influence road car design in the future. Other than the Mercedes reconfiguration at the start of the season I don't recall the last time I saw a technical explanation piece. As C4 has to occupy as much screen time on non-race content as race content I think that is the ideal opportunity to go into a bit of depth about aerodynamics, tyres, what you're allowed to adjust, weights, power units, suspension, undertrays, fuel, etc., etc.

I get the argument about entertainment, but if that stuff is of no consequence, and it's all about the celebrities, then you might as well run a one make series with everyone driving the same car. It's the tech that is the differentiator, so show us some of it.
