Alpine fined €10,000* for the unsafe pit stop of Gasly, which led to a team member being knocked off his feet.

The driver was given a green light despite only having three wheels attached to the car, so the team gets a fine for allowing one of their mechanics to be placed in danger.

*Good to see meaningful fines for offences such as this. €10k buys a lot of Margaux for the FIA annual dinner.
I expect they want to drink the older stuff. So, maybe two bottles from a lesser vintage.

Danny Ricc has got a 3 place penalty for the next race and 2 points because as he was rammed, Hulk passed him so he then retook his rightful position was was deemed to be an overtake under SC conditions.

Unbelievable for this to effectively be more severely sanctioned than that worthless prick Stroll.
This assumes that Ric will be at the next race...

If Liam Lawson replaces him, doesn’t it mean he will get the 3 place penalty?

No, as it was a driver behaviour penalty.

The penalties that do carry to another driver are the reliability penalties, e.g. for using too many engines.

I think I'm right in saying that a driver carries over penalties to any other FIA sanctioned races during the year. So if Danny was dropped before the next race but landed a drive in Formula E, he'd serve that penalty there. I think!

Rule 28.4 is the one that says power unit usage stays with the car:
“If a driver is replaced at any time during the Championship his replacement will be deemed to be the original driver for the purposes of assessing Power Unit usage.”

IIRC he has to serve the penalty at the next event in which he competes, and it’s (perhaps figuratively these days) written on his licence. So if he gets replaced now and turns up in Formula E next year, the penalty still has to be served before his first race.
Edit: snap @steviebee.

Yep, otherwise a team could hire 4 drivers and double their power train allocation without penalty.

I think he absolutely will (hopefully), he has to be given at least another race or two given he more or less wiped the floor with Yuki the second his chassis was changed for a new one. Could be a fluke, but he's earned a one or two race reprieve given the performance differential this weekend.

He'll get until the summer break. There's really no reason to give up on him or bring Lawson in before then.

RBRs pit team worth a mention today - 2 double stacks and the times were 2.1, 2.0, 2.0 and 1.9.

The 2nd stops might be the fastest double stack of all time apparently.

Quite probably the fastest two stops in a double-stack, but there was 18s between the cars as they pitted, so they weren’t particularly closely stacked. It was 22 seconds from MV stopping to SP moving.

True, impressive nonetheless given how hard other teams find it to get into the low 2s

Daniel Ricciardo seems a likeable enough chap - but for me his time in F1 needs to come to an end. I think for a mid field driver (yes, mid field) his manager has done an awesome job at getting him some very well paid positions. But now it seems a bit unfair to keep Lawson away from showing what he can do.

Very impressive. Immediately looked so slick and waited for times to confirm it.

They were ready for the next car from what I recall watching, had it been right behind.

Was was fastest Sauber time today?

When teams are firing on all cylinders it’s really impressive.

I'm a big g DR fan, or at least I was when he was an exciting driver..

Anyway, Lawson will replace him soon enough if he can't pull his socks up. I don't see any benefit or reason to expect that to happen before the summer break.

They're not 'wasting their time' with DR, there must be something in the data that they like. It makes complete sense to give him a half year, and if it doesn't work out that gives Lawson a half year to get dialled into the car and F1 in general, and that's enough.

Don't get me wrong - he's a great driver and seems like a nice bloke. He doesn't seem to have that killer/arrogance about him that I've seen in other world champions - the only ones would be Nico Rosberg and Jenson Button who managed to be half non killer and win a championship.

You're probably right! All I'm saying is that there's no hurry to boot him before the summer break - either he sorts himself out before then or he doesn't.

If he doesn't, half a season is more than enough for Lawson to find his feet.

Everyone's eager to see Lawson asap which I sort of understand... But from a team/driver pov there's no value in making the switch ahead of the summer break - on the basis that DR may as well be given the maximum time to see what he can achieve.

In which case Hulk should get the same penalty for overtaking him to start with.
