A change is as good as a rest.
I don't think Jenson really wanted to go, but there wasn't much point in trundling around at the back.
I thought he looked pretty fking chuffed to be gone!I don't think Jenson really wanted to go, but there wasn't much point in trundling around at the back.

It'd be pretty even IF Vettel was on it. His motivation seems to wane without the best car - but he'd likely be in the best, so... it'd be an awesome pairing. Vettel does seem tired of the red stable.
I disagree, he needs a car with specific characteristics, these were supplied by Newey. Without that he is an above average driver, but not in the same class as Alonso, Hamilton and Ricciardo.KevinCamaroSS said:

It sounds like they are basically just negotiating terms now and Massa is likely to return to take up the spare seat. Wow.

If we did allow Valtteri to leave, we would only do this if an experienced, credible alternative was available, such as someone like Felipe Massa, for example.

In theory it would make sense to sign Button for a year, as he knows a lot of the team, from when it was Brawn, and got on OK with LH etc.
But, I agree with others, mentally I think he's already checked-out from F1, so probably only a last resort option 'if' the thought of putting PW in the seat is too unpalatable...and they can't get Bottas.
What Williams do if they let Bottas go is more of a headache for them I think.
The only reason Button checked-out of F1 was being in the terrible McLaren for two years.
Give him a Championship winning car and I am sure he would be on the Button

Well it looks like Bottas is a Mercedes driver for 2017.Claire Williams said:

Massa being back is perhaps the only real option for Williams.
Pretty embarrassing for Massa to return and Williams only asking due to Bottas leaving.
Rosberg really has messed Mercedes up

Reading that article it does look like a good possibility now.Claire Williams said:

Better start getting used to Bottas up the front now then with Lewis.
How good is Bottas's Christmas going to be!!
Best seat in F1 bar driving for Ferrari...because its Ferrari.
I honestly feel Bottas will be very close to Lewis. How good is Bottas's Christmas going to be!!

Will be very interesting if they do become teammates.

Looks likely that he will make the move now, the big question is who will fill his seat as LS needs a good team mate, part of me wonders if Jenson might come back. Massa, honestly I don't think he should come back.
Massa only announced his retirement when he knew he was without a seat and Williams love him.m and he knows how to set up a car.Seems a perfect solution.
The odds for Bottas winning the F1 Championship have come down a lot today.
Things are looking good for Bottas joining Mercedes according to the bookies.
Vettel has great odds at this present time.
12/1 Vettel wins the 2017 Championship
Never placed a bet in my life but wanted to see what the bookies are thinking.

Radio 4 reported this morning that Claire Williams has said that they would let Bottas go - IF there was a credible, experienced driver available as a replacement.
I seem to recall Di Resta has ties to Mercedes.... or would Massa come out of retirement, given he only quit because he knew Bottas had signed and Williams wanted the cash from Stroll.

I think Massa & JB are done with F1 more so Massa than Jenson, I still wouldn't be surprised to see Carlos next to Lewis more so than Bottas.
The reason I think this is because Mercedes wants a second strong Mercedes team (Manor are taking too long) especially when the competition is supposedly going to be stronger next year, so it's easier to start with a well run team with a good engineering core, but the one thing that team will need is some form of driver continuity hence my thinking Bottas stays & Carlos sits next to Lewis with a 1 year deal.

As Horner said why would they (Red Bull) want to lose one of their assets to Mercedes? Sainz is tied in with Red Bull so going no where.
It's funny how people say Massa is finished in F1 when you look how close he and Bottas were in the same car. So when Bottas is picking up 2nd's and odd 1st next season in the Merc just remember how close Massa was to him in the Williams. I read a stat that said Massa took 76% of the points for Williams..
