It was for Ocon, he was racing the people around him. Max was holding him up.
For God's sake. The whole F1 paddock (except Toto). All the stewards. All commentators and pundits. They all state that whilst Max made an error of judgement, it was Ocon that caused the collision.

Ocon served the penalty right?
This is PistonHeads, where a well told lie is worth a thousand facts...........

Yep...but what many can't figure out is what is the difference from the incident this weekend vs last, with the exception that one of the cars is being lapped?

I do like it when F1 lightens up a bit...

...Damn the Fresh Prince looks good at 50!
Definitely noticing the charm since Liberty took an interest in F1, to my surprise they are steering just the right side of "cheese" and I like it

Cheers

Here's one for a curve ball. Bottas gets moved aside over winter and Ocon takes the drive.
Nah, Lewis is too happy with the current setup to pull that one.
Spot on.
Lewis doesn't want another Rosberg

Horner is such a prick, Wolff's face said it all!
+1. Rude and uncalled for. Toto's face was a picture!! Shows the lack of character of the man. Max fits in well there and I can see why Riciardo is leaving.
Given how RBR have performed for the last 4 years, how long do we expect Horner Spice to last - I don't think he'll manage a year, unless the Honda power-plant comes good very quickly! And given the experiences of others (like McLaren) that isn't looking likely!
I'm no F1 engineer, but I'm pretty sure that if the Red Bull had had a Mercedes engine in the back from 2014, Mercedes woul;d not be celebrating 5 titles on the trot.
I’m no engineer but if Mercedes had a red bull chassis under them they would be celebrating 5 straight WCC. Oh wait a minute laugh

RBR have ignored Renault's specified cooling requirements and packaging for five years, and that engine is physically smaller than the Mercedes engine so if it caught fire and melted bodywork in 2014, and overheated in each subsequent year since despite their supplier telling them to change their approach why would a bigger engine suddenly not melt a RedBull? If RBR had a Merc engine the fires would have been bigger and by 2015 Horner would have made accusations that he's been supplied duff engines like he had to Renault and RBR would have been scratching around for an engine supply like they have for the last few seasons. If they changed their car to suit the PU, regardless of supplier then it wouldn't handle like it does.
If you've got Newey, what he says is gospel.

It’s a bit like Enzo saying “Aerodynamics is just for those that can’t build engines”.

Best package wins and it’s not been Newey’s package the last 5 years.

Or maybe Mercedes doesn't want another Rosberg. Hamilton doesn't look like he cares... he knows no one of the current crop of drivers can beat him with the same car without him having mechanical problems. Simple.

Why put in someone who:

Hasn't beaten his team mate
Has had a number of silly crashes - including with his team mate

He's got the charm out of the car but I haven't seen anything to indicate he's going to be any better than Bottas.

Obviously not; because RBR have been nigh on nowhere. If Newey had played with what he was dealt, then who knows. As has been stated; saying that the Merc engine in the RBR would be the best package; is ignoring the actual requirements for that to be able to happen.

Not normally into these grand theories etc. but with Lewis still having his focus firmly on winning for the first time after he has won a championship and Bottas clearly unmotivated I wonder whether the team have sat down after Lewis's WC confirmation in Mexico and decided to go for Schumacher's win and WC records... just a thought as Lewis is only 18 wins away now and 2 WCs of course.
I think I read somewhere that Toto has or is going to pitch the idea of going for it all to whoever writes the cheques at Mercedes.

If they did it would be a hell of a boost for there brand.
It certainly would, albeit using a British company and British talent hehe
So in some ways, just like Schumacher then.
???

I thought Ferrari were an Italian company based in Italy with fresh pasta served to its Italian engineers at Maranello each lunch time ?

Rory Bryne (South African) designed the cars with the technical direction by Ross Brawn (British) with Nigel Stepney (British) as Chief Mechanic. I suspect that's what the poster is getting at.

not to mention the sauerkraut piloting the car and the whole show being run by a froggy.

Post spygate a lot was made by the more provocative Italian press of the ferrari team not being quite that italian.

Ofcourse.

MS brought a small team of British talent across, but the majority were Italian and it's an Italian company.

By contrast Mercedes F1 is a wholly British company pretending to German.
They even play the German national anthem for the "Silver Arrows".

Merc F1 has as much lineage to the Silver Arrows as a digestive biscuit.

Yep, acquaintance of mine works for them... south African. Unless you are from a top British uni, it is very difficult to get a job at Maranello.

Exactly - the bankroll is German.
