Why do I have it in my head that coulthard runs / got this whole C4 show off the ground as we know it? For some reason I think he chose the people ie steve jones. Does he own the production company or something?

Whisper Films. Coulthard and Jake Humphrey's joint company.

Does anyone know if there's a minimum time that has to elapse between a race that isn't covered live by C4 happening and C4 being allowed to show it? I was just curious as the Mexican GP coverage was awfully late for those of us who had to get up on Monday.

I don't know about a specified minimum amount of time, but the race itself didn't finish until nearly 9pm, so they did quite well to broadcast a highlights show starting at 10:30pm the same evening.

Why would it have to have finished though? Why not just cover it as live but delay the broadcast by, say, an hour?

Perhaps they don't have the broadcast rights to show it in full, even delayed, so it has to be edited? If that is the case, is there anything that specifies by how much they can/must edit it down? If it's one of the regular borefests they could edit it down to 5 minutes, but if it's a lights-to-flag ding-dong could they get away with just editing a lap or two out of the middle?

The old "Grand Prix" highlights programme that BBC used to show on a Sunday night was broadcast sometime between 9.30 pm and 11.30 pm - depending on the race.

It often used to clash with "That's Life".

I read somewhere (can't remember when or where), that there is a contracted time delay between the live SKY races and C4 highlights show.

I was wondering if it was a contractual thing.

Even so, they could've cut down the pre-race guff and either cut down the advert times, or cut them altogether. It was 11pm before they even got to showing the race highlights. And they didn't seem to cut huge chunks out.

I really like the C4 coverage, but the Mexico highlights show really p1ssed me off. I ended up not watching the last 10-15 laps as it was well past midnight.

They will need to allow for any potential delays in the scheduling. Given the potential for weather delays or an accident at the 'live' event, C4 would need to have enough of a buffer to absorb a late finish to the race and still edit without it overlapping with their scheduled broadcast time.

This would impact the live sky only races. Also why football highlights are on later than the end of the matches.
I bet C4 dont like it either due to low ratings cos everyones gone to bed .

I bet they still had more viewers than Sky had for the live race.

As it was likely to be the season decider I bought a day pass on NowTV to watch sky's live coverage.
May be a trivial thing, but the sky presenters are a scruffy bunch! To a man, no pride or care in their appearance.

Coud've still lost the ads or cut them down though, to try and squeeze the whole thing in before midnight. They almost seemed longer than normal C4 ad breaks!

I was struck by how boring Damon is to listen to. Wished the C4 had the race live as I always do when I resort to paying for the Sky coverage.

I would expect that to be true.

And in the process, C4 will have made a tiny amount of money from advertising, while SkyF1 made a fortune from subscriptions.

It's why Sky will be the only broadcaster after this year for the next 10 or so years.
