Jolyon Palmer - F1

I'd imagine Palmer was given the seat again this year so Renault could gauge their progress with the new car more accurately. Two new drivers wouldn't have given as clear a picture. I agreed he is unlikely to still be there next year unless he can up his game get his dad to contribute considerably.
Fixed that for you! HustleRussell said:
I would like to say at this point that the Russia crash wasn't Jolyon's fault.
No but his qualifying shunt was that put him in that position to get taken out.....http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/129232
Don't know how the mechanics haven't lamped him yet for his attitude.
Someone mentioned he was a great racer in GP2.. really ?
88 races, 7 wins, 19 podiums (inc the wins).
In his championship year he beat Vandoorne (who was a rookie) by 47 points and 3rd place Felipe Nasr (also a rookie) by 52.
ignore his last year, that becomes 66, 3 and 7 respectively.
All GP2 champions:
Valescchi now works for sky italy as a pundit, he has effectively retired.
Leimar is driving a glorified milk float
Pantano was last seen in Blancpain driver a tailender Mclaren.
I'm pretty sure Palmer can have a nice income from paid drives for "gentleman" GT race crews, but other than that ?

Ps. Can someone tell Valsecchi he's actually not very good at commentating either, though his staccato co worker gets pretty annoying, too............
It's just speculation at the moment but it could be all over. Feel sorry for him if today was his last race.

So there's a new floor for the car. Palmer had it for FP1 and Nico has had it since and will have it for the rest of the weekend. So he gets the benefit of the doubt for this weekend.
Probably just to make sure it didn't spit the car into the scenery! To be fair Renault do seem to have found something effective, because on a power circuit like Silverstone it's probably safe to assume it wasn't engine power that got NH to where he finished!
But I did feel a sorry for JP - how can he do anything when he doesn't even get to the grid?!
Who knows, if CS did go to Renault it may prove to be an inspired move (like LH to Mercedes or SV to Ferrari) - but I'm sure Toro Rosso would prefer to keep him and move DK on!
As always, it'll be interesting to see how the dust settles.
He has completely proven his inability to handle pressure. He has got a drive in a team which his his to lose, and he is doing a good job of it. He doesn´t need to beat Hulk to get kept on next year, just get within a couple of tenths. He can´t and he knows he needs to up his game, but the harder he tries the worse he gets. That lack of composure is not what WDCs are made of.
Sadly, he has a contract in which he is paying to be there. Not that Renault needs the money, but is different to him being a pure employee who could be handed his P45.
My reckoning is, we will have to put up with him until the end of the season.

At this stage I believe that despite the bad luck he is simply not up to it.
I think that any other active driver on the grid would be doing a better job (yes including Stroll) and there are several promising young drivers that are not currently in F1 who would be unlikely to do worse if given the chance. Plus Kubica hanging around as well.
