Russel not holding back now. Found this quite amusing.

F1 has become so utterly boring this is a reported news story. It would genuinely be more interesting to know what Russell had for lunch . Lewis is going to become an Alonso now , except Alonso is more interesting.

Luigi has been using that same excuse since 2022, time to come up with some new ideas before leaving the team that has given him everything.

He didn't need any excuses last year, he spanked Russell.

Lets hope Russell uses his head and doesn't let any early good results bring out the cocky arse we all know. biggrin

I take it you did not actually read the article?

All GR said is he did not know.

Completely contradicts what Lewis said? Says I don’t know, and then confirms he actually does know.

“I don’t really know the big differences, to be honest, because as far as I’m aware with the cars we’re pretty similar.

“I don’t really focus too much on his set-up. Mine was actually more set up for the race than the set-up he ran. At least it was on Friday [for qualifying].”

I remember when George Russell was going to retire Lewis last year hehe

Certain people will latch onto GR's comments but there's really not a lot in them. He doesn't say for instance that the cars or the set-ups were 'the same'. He wants to underscore his performance, particularly his qualifying performance, by suggesting that his setup was even more race-focussed than Hamilton's. That is his view. There are a lot of parameters which go into a setup such that the drivers could reasonably disagree on which of them is more race-focussed.

Russell out-qualified and finished ahead of Hamilton. Neither of the cars were working as they would've hoped.

Where does he say he knows? Nowhere in the article or your cut and paste. All he says is he does not really know, as he does not focus on Lewis' setup. He thought his may be better for the race but it is really a guess since he did not really know.

Isn’t it obvious in its implication? Claims he doesn’t know, but qualifies his own setup back to what he knows of Lewis?

The implication is simply George is trying to say he is better than Lewis.

George's ability to only focus on his team mate (presumably because of who he is) will hopefully dissipate somewhat next year.

You seem to struggle with this one Will.

Max didn't do anything wrong in AD21, it was the FIA that screwed Lewis of his 8th title.

I don’t struggle with it. Think I’ve always said it was an admin cockup and Max just took advantage of the situation.

Just saw that pic and thought it was worth sharing as Ive not seen Lewis talk about it like that before and interesting to see him say he would have done the same as Max as a few on here have been pretty adamant that Lewis is such a gent he wouldn’t have done the same.

Hard to know really. Those at the very top are pretty mercenary. But Lewis does have an inherent sense of fair play, I think, so might well have been uncomfortable with 'winning' in such an incorrect way.

I suspect the pressure on Hamilton & Mercedes to get the 2021 championship was not as great as that on Verstappen & Red Bull: I suspect they would be more inclined to keep their reputation clean & hence make sure Massi put it straight somehow. But we'll never know for sure, of course, because many other factors leading up to AD2021 would also need to be addressed.

The easiest way for Lewis to judge 2021 is to accept that he threw 25 easy championship points away at the Baku restart.

It should never have come down to who won the last race.

Verstappen should have received a race ban for his behaviour in Saudi and have been excluded for his outrageous driving in Brazil.

It's nonsense to play these kinds of games. They arrived at AD on equal points.
